About this deal

However, as someone with a master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling, and having had worked with people who had severe mental illnesses much like the people in the hospital in this book, I was astounded at how poor the mental health representation was. Amy Brenner is a third-year medical student who is doing a psychiatry rotation on a locked ward for 13 hours. Additionally, the inclusion of a subtle romance element added another dimension to the story, leaving me emotionally invested in the characters’ relationships. With an array of unpredictable twists, an eclectic cast of characters, and an intriguing blend of past and present narratives, McFadden creates a gripping story that keeps readers guessing until the very end. I’ve read four books by this author so far, and I have to give it to her that her books have a way of sucking you in and making you forget time (at least that’s been my case).

Freida McFadden raises the level of fear at a threatening level, and then with a secret that Amy is hiding, the tension in this book never lets up for one second. Here is a quick description and cover image of book Ward D written by Freida McFadden which was published in May 8, 2023. Back when our ancestors were hunters and gatherers, being ostracized from a tribe was akin to a death sentence.

Studies using functional MRI have shown the same areas of the brain become activated both during rejection and during real physical pain. I wanted to scream at the main character … but more than that I wanted to scream at the author for perpetuating such negative stereotypes about those who suffer from mental illness. Nevertheless, the novel remains a page-turner, providing a thrilling reading experience for fans of the genre. This psychiatric floor is the last place she wants to spend an entire night, but not for reasons anyone would ever know. In addition, the ethical issue of Amy’s fears with having an overnight shift at Ward D was completely overlooked.

I found the main character of this book to be a little annoying and I definitely prefer her books written from dual POV. Also, the narrator's voice made her sound even more immature and daft, so if you want to locate a shred of respect for our dear FMC, I recommend reading with you eyeballs. The characters are well-developed and their interactions contribute to the unique atmosphere of the ward. And back to that negative review which I could not comment on as they are to popular on GR to allow for my piddly comment. Liars offer too much information, babbling on with excessive detail to convince themselves or others of what they are saying. It doesn't help when she is told by some of the patients that a dangerous patient that was supposed to be in seclusion is on the loose and threatens to kill them all. I had been drawn to try one of McFadden's book as I have seen so many great reviews on so many different books of hers on GR lately.
