About this deal

It took the crown from Lagavulin 16 over two years ago and every so often I do a taste test between Lag 16, Arbeg 10 and Lap 10 and each time I prefer the Lap. The use of heavily peated malt, along with traditional floor malting techniques, infuses the spirit with the unmistakable aroma of smoldering peat fires.

Local water is sourced from the legendary Kilbride Stream, and the malted barley is cold-smoked then dried over a fire fuelled by the Islay peat. Laphroaig 10 is the quintessential expression of Laphroaig and its character can be found in nearly every whisky that the distillery produces. On the nose there are clouds of smoke with an iodine infused sea spray topped with a sprig of seaweed.Critic tasting note: "This expression offers an uncompromising note of brine-laden peat and iodine, with charcoal and sweeter fruit notes also present.

It's time in the cask has made it a nice smooth dram; not quite as smooth as the likes of Ardbeg 10, but still good.

Each sip of Laphroaig whisky offers an immersive experience of Islay's untamed and captivating soul. The peat brings out prominent tastes of a damp forest floor, smoked kippers, liquid bonfire and a hint of iodine. The distillery's fanatical following of "Friends of Laphroaig" and its annual Cairdeas releases showcase the strong bond between the distillery and its dedicated enthusiasts. Personally I adore peated whisky, and Laphroaig 10 for me is the benchmark (much like Glenfiddich 12 or Glenmorangie 10 for non-peated whisky). Laphroaig whiskies are known for their bold and intense flavors, characterized by the pungent aroma of peat smoke, medicinal notes, and a hint of maritime saltiness.

Our eco-friendly approach doesn't compromise on protection, ensuring your items are safe during transit. The distillery's location on the Isle of Islay, known for its abundant peat bogs, allows Laphroaig to create whiskies with a character that is deeply rooted in the island's terroir. Although I was gifted a bottle of Ardbeg 10 at Christmas and that gives this a good run for it's money mind.

A distinctive character that still holds true to the spirit of Ian Hunter, who first created it over 75 years ago.
