About this deal

Pierre Cardin pour Monsieur (1972) is the granddaddy of all these, while Beloved Man is a second cousin twice-removed raised in a different country. I don't get as much saffron as others seem to, and I'd place patchouli, musk, and gaiac much higher in the list than they currently are. It strikes me as a sweet floral, but maybe that's because it's so well mixed that no note in particular stands out.

On a purely personal note it reminds me of a scent my father used to wear and this may be why I find it such a comforting scent and one that I am likely to keep in rotation.

Yet, regardless of the different manifestations of Beloved — from baby powder to sweet floral woodiness, leathered woods, or “grapefruit-inflected melting plastic” with “abrasive woods” — there seems to be a common theme in many of these assessments: disappointment. Beloved Man feels like a sun-bleached weather-worn cousin to Guerlain Héritage in the finish, like a rugged well-travelled gentleman explorer looking for Dr. If you've had any experience with the Omani house of Amouage, you probably know them as a house that's not afraid to make bombastic, high-performing Middle Eastern fragrances.

It just blends with woods perfectly to create a woody-incensy concoction with a smoky vibe that is very minimal. Unfortunately what turns me off to it slightly is the "stinky fruit" or "stale fruit" effect that I receive from it. As the fragrance dries down late the Declaration vibe completely goes away as Beloved Man turns relatively woody, and my enjoyment and overall interest level increased substantially with the change. As the fragrance enters the early heart a waxy iris joins the mix along with dirty cumin giving the overall heart a quite earthy spicy feel on the whole. It actually turns a little feminine (to me) with the iris and jasmine together, but the base is a little more masculine with patchouli, leather, and guaiac wood. I like it but I admit it feels like it's a fragrance reverse-engineered from things I'd reach for first, but I can't fault the quality. Probably not drawn enough to part with the requisite cash to own this fragrance, but certainly I feel a try out coming on. Our fragrance boutique features a range of niche, indie, and designer perfumes and colognes sure to please any perfume enthusiast. You would be expecting sweet elemi backing everything up, but what you get is something raw and wild, mostly crowding everything else instead.
