Though I checked this book out from the local library, I plan to purchase it and add it to my cooking rotation.A] delightful collection of personal recipes sure to entice lovers of Indian food … Khan cooks from the heart, and her appetizing dishes and expert guidance are not to be missed.

From the final chapter, Becoming Ammu, Asma Khan delivers on her promise of recipes that are quick to prepare. Although I have cooked almost daily for many decades – from simple, family meals to more elaborate celebratory ones – I do not often prepare Indian food. I substituted butternut for the pumpkin as it is a vegetable eaten with great relish in the country from which I originate. It’s full of family recipes, stories from both Khan and her mother’s childhoods, and plenty of pictures – something Faizana was shocked Khan managed to collect.Flipping through Asma’s Indian Kitchen is rather like sharing a cup of chai and a good old gupshup with the author herself – the conversation frequently food-focussed but meandering off into an anecdote about a much-loved family cook here, the tale of a dying tradition there, the odd history lesson thrown in for good measure.
