About this deal

It's a really simple design, but it is stout and square, and has already helped me get some good re-saw cuts for a couple different projects. The fence rides on a sliding table, which has two parts: a plywood base, and a hardwood runner that rides the angle-iron rail in front. One advantage I can see for the magnetic version is that you could, by purposefully not registering the lip against the table, align it at an angle for tasks like sawing wedges or cutting a piece of straight grain out of a board with slanted grain.

Straight off, I disliked the bandsaw fence that came standard and took a look at the Record Power version to retrofit with. It doesn't take much force to deflect it because the fixing points for the fence bar are far away (on the left side of the table) from where force is being applied. To maximize the pivoting action, the front of the fence needs to be spaced out from the end of the runner. Adjustable in Two Dimensions This fence is unique in that it adjusts to set up perfectly square to your table and blade.Hey Paul, There are a lot of people on my side of the pond fighting and clawing to keep from having to use the metric system. Now glue the block into its recess and drill a pilot hole through the block and into the runner for the threaded insert that holds the hinge bolt. I made it with plywood left over from another project, and it took me ~1 hour to build and document it. My argument is, that if you are making one-off pieces, even if they are big projects, the amount of time you save using a table saw is negligible ie as a ratio of total project time.

The actual function of the measuring tape, with its very fine divisions, together with the lens cursor, is very good indeed and, once calibrated, extremely accurate. Despite these humble origins, this bandsaw fence is rock-solid, operates smooth as silk, adjusts for drift, and offers up to 9 in. A hardwood spacer pushes the rail away from the front of the bandsaw table so the fence can ride on it.

Thanks Randy, this is just the advice I needed to read - and wanted to read tbh - as I'm enamored of the idea.

I can also assure you many of the engineers have only worked with their monstrosities on paper or a computer simulation. If you have an aluminium sash clamp like the ones I use, screw a piece of wood to the side of the clamp and then set the shoes to suit your table. There are different schools of thought regarding where the blade / teeth should sit on the wheel tyres.A 24" length of 3/4" thick x 3" tall Ultra Track aluminum extrusion serves as the fence and clamps to both rails, making it the most rigid fence available. Combine it with large rural areas not on the east or west coasts which had grandparent era memories of forced 1930s farm commodity manipulation by the central government. I used the miter guide to cut triangular braces, making sure that one side was about half as tall as the fence. It didn’t come with a fence, so I put a Kregg on, that looks just about the same as the one photographed.
