About this deal

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. It features smooth curves, a brushed stainless steel casing, inset backlit buttons, and a small LCD screen. This is a very inexpensive part, and in all likelihood, it won't go on your machine within a few years of use.

Precise and repeatable extraction - Dual stainless steel boilers and heated group head controlled by digital temperature control (PID) brings water to precisely the right temperature (+/- 1⁰C) to extract maximum flavor potential, shot after shot. Great review – I have had a Sage Dual Boiler with a Smart Grinder Pro for over 6 years, although I replaced the grinder with a Nice Zero recently. I'll talk a bit more about this later, but by using the auto-on function and being a little bit more organized, this auto-off function could be a very good thing for the environment, although that's not what I muttered under my breath the first time it turned itself off ;-). This is easily controlled through an intuitive dial that allows for variation from coarse to very fine grinds. We're a bunch of self-confessed coffee nerds, each with our own journey through the specialty coffee industry. In another blog your wrote that 15 bar pressure is not an advantage for making great espresso and is usually found in cheaper machines and the 9 bar is found on the more high end espressomachines. Going back to my personal experience with this machine so far, the only negative thing I can mention is something beyond Sage's control, and something you'll find on other recently manufactured home espresso machines, which is the 15-minute auto-off due to this EC directive. It’s not for everyone, but if you’ve outgrown your starter machine, are ready to experiment a bit more with your coffee and want top quality results every time, it’s worth every penny. Top of that list, as the name explains, is the dual boiler, which means that this machine has one boiler ready to run at espresso temperature, and one ready for steam.

I've found you can also back off the brew pressure really quite precisely without any mod, by simply opening the hot water valve very slightly while pulling the shot, and in theory, this does exactly the same, the only negative being that you waste some hot water. She loves trail running, rock climbing, coffee, food, and her tiny dog — and writing about all of them.Checkout my friends at Coffee Hit, one of the UK's most established suppliers of pro and home barista gear. Compared with a knob, many users find the lever more ergonomic and better for controlling the steam. The Slayer being a brand of espresso machine with unique control over the pump pressure, which will set you back about ten grand. Do you have any active discount codes (would make my life easier when the wife sees it in the kitchen 😅) on the Dual Bolier?

I certainly can’t think of a cheaper model with dual stainless steel boilers, volumetric dosing, PID temperature control, and programmable pre-infusion. Even my wife loves what was originally “if you think I’m ever going to use that then……” And now uses it daily. Further to the professional construction of The Dual Boiler, the coffee machine offers a multitude of technical features that give you greater control over the quality and flavour you get from your coffee beans. With no heat up (or cool down) phase required, you can very quickly prepare milk-based drinks without losing temperature, which is a problem with typical home manual machines. You could use one grinder for espresso and for brew, but the problem with that is if you do way out of espresso range to use the grinder for brew, you'll have to dial back in again, which isn't ideal. This commercial feature limits the maximum pressure throughout the extraction, preventing bitter flavors in the shot. Re judging books by their covers, the Sage Dual Boiler doesn't look like most other prosumer, or home barista espresso machines. Flexible shot control - Choose between one shot, two shots or manual control over how much espresso ends up in your cup for the perfect dose every time. Pump Pressure - 15 Bar Italian Pump - limited via an Over Pressure Valve for optimal extraction pressure. Over Pressure Valve: This commercial feature limits the maximum pressure throughout the extraction, preventing bitter flavours in the shot.

Sage espresso machines are great for including all the accessories you need, compared to other brands. It has proven in many SCACE tests to be similar in temperature stability to saturated group espresso machines including the La Marzocco GS3, which is about six grand! litre water tank with a filter that ensures the highest quality water enters your machine, different buttons for a single (30ml) or shot (60ml) pour, a steam wand to the right of the machine, and a hot water tap to the left hand side. A lever operates the steam wand on the side of the machine, a system you’ll see on many top espresso makers like the La Marzocco GS3 or Slayer. The default setting of 7s should work with most beans although you can up this by a few seconds if you want a bit more flavour to come through. The boilers of the Sage Dual Boiler espresso machine are straightforward to drain, another upgrade from the last model. In fact, I'd hazard a guess that only a small percentage of Sage or Breville Dual Boiler owners even realize that their machines have these features. Pre-infusion power set to the minimum, 55 – which you only have to do once but you can change back at any time (by pressing the up and down arrows together, then pressing menu to toggle to “PP”). This isn't something Sage invented, it's something you'll find on some commercial machines and some high-end espresso machines, but the vast majority of espresso machines have a rotary valve, and having a lever just makes so much sense.
