About this deal

But who knows if, like Michael Myers, the unstoppable Evan Smoak will delight fervent fans by coming back?

Michaelides takes a literary turn in his latest novel, employing an unreliable narrator, the structure of classical drama, and a self-conscious eye to dismantling the locked-room mystery. It seems, however, that you cannot cage a Smoak and by trying to force his hand, the president pushes Evan to extreme measures. She asks him to take down a man named Luke Devine, an enormously rich and evil man who, she says, poses a threat to the safety of the entire country. However, throughout the series, Evan has allowed people into his life and over time, he has allowed them to get to know him and it has irrevocably changed him and his life – and he’s ok with that (I think). The narrator, soon established as Elliot Chase, then zooms out to address the reader directly, introducing the players—most importantly movie star Lana Farrar.

I have a been avid fan of this author and series since the beginning, I read and reviewed the last book in this series and did not like it very much. As a badass assassin, you can feel how nervous he is being around ordinary people like his 10-year-old neighbor, Peter. The choices he makes as the action and thrills build to a climax leads to a series of suspenseful encounters with those he is sworn to protect, those he hunts, and those who hunt him. The audio is narrated by Scott Brick and is top-notch including an exclusive author's interview with Lisa Gardner giving fascinating insights into the making and background of the series.

With a publication date of February 14, 2023, the Last Orphan is the eighth novel in Hurwitz’ Orphan X series.Second, I don't want to hear any more women say things like, "As a liberated woman, I should (or I think. We pride ourselves on low crime here, but an enterprise was taking advantage of our goodwill, using us as a transport from the EU to North America. The man who’d stolen Evan’s shot had a flat metal lip stud the size of a quarter, with a rune stamped on it; Evan hadn’t brushed up on his Icelandic runes in a few decades, but he believed that it was the symbol for protection in battle. After a decade and change spent committing unsanctioned hits around the globe, Evan had gone AWOL from the Program and lost Jack all at once. The last survivor of the off-the-books programme that raised and trained him, Evan Smoak was sent around the world to do his government’s dirty work.

I loved the fact that Joey, Dog, and Orphan V were featured and have hope that a romance will brew between Orphan X and Orphan V (sorry to all the Evan and Mia fans out there!

A tasty, if not always tasteful, tale of supernatural mayhem that fans of King and Crichton alike will enjoy. Evan quickly discovers and investigates the murders of innocent people somehow involved with this elusive billionaire. Evan Smoak, known as Orphan X due to his background of being trained as a governmental assassin, is known on the streets as the "Nowhere Man", someone who is committed to righting wrongs. Evan is, of course, very masculine and adept at everything but I was pleased to see a number of strong female characters contributing to his mission. There is so much love out there for the Orphan X Series and lead protagonist Evan Smoak that I was more than happy to risk starting with the eighth book in a long standing, established series.

Since then he’d committed himself to staying off the radar while using his skills to help others who were just as powerless as he’d been as a young boy—pro bono missions he conducted as the Nowhere Man. If you were to go by what you find in novels these days, the entire world is populated by super-trained assassins and spies who can take on any odds no matter how stacked against them the odds are. Overall, this novel feels as if it is a notch below the previous novels in the series, perhaps because it has two parallel stories rather than focusing like a laser-beam on one plot. It's odd to me that it was this very relationship that I was annoyed by in my first, (but what was really the 7th), Orphan X book, that I now love the most. Evan has a code to only kill if the person really deserves such a fate, so he investigates this man and finds a great deal of corruption that requires him to use his fighting skills.Sunday Times bestselling author of the Evan Smoak thrillers Orphan X, The Nowhere Man, Hellbent, Out of the Dark, Into the Fire, Prodigal Son, Dark Horse and The Last Orphan. Orphan X may think of himself of a loner, but his tight inner circle are some of the most interesting (and possibly homicidal) people around.
