About this deal

Laura loves mystery novels and wants to be a detective like fictional Matt Walker when she is older. The progression of the mystery – starting with Laura trying to figure out her uncle, escalating to the grand plot behind everything gives the reader a nice sense of immersion into the story.

Dead Man's Cove, the first in her Laura Marlin mystery series, won the Blue Peter Book of the Year Award in 2011. Tariq gets kidnapped and so does Laura and they have to try and get out of Dead Man’s Cove, a cove where if they stay there too long they will sink and die. I've already read the World Book Day short story, The Midnight Picnic, and can't wait to start the second book, Kidnap in the Caribbean. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published. Aged 11 she and her family moved to Rainbow’s End farm in Gadzema, which later became the subject of her memoir. It's gripping, hugely entertaining and has something special about it - I just can't put my finger on it. A passionate conservationist, Lauren is a Patron of Mane Chance Animal Sanctuary, an Ambassador for the Born Free Foundation, and the founder of Authors4Oceans.

What I want,' Laura declared is to have a life packed with excitement like some of the characters in my books. Her bestselling One Dollar Horse series was followed by YA horse romance, The Glory, now optioned for film. So when she’s sent from the children’s home to live with her uncle in Cornwall, she’s thrilled to be caught up in a real-life mystery.I thought this quote was quite interesting because of the powerful descriptive language that was used to describe him like; the ‘ink-black figure’ makes him sound sinister and intimidating.

Luckily, her uncle Calvin knows she's responsible and gives Laura the space to explore, although he's not so sure that she should be rushing to pick her career so quickly. I love the strong female character who would give any of her male counterparts a run for their money, and the supporting cast of characters add some humorous moments. Laura is a cared-for child , she’s been shunted from foster home to foster homes whilst her uncle was unaware of her birth thanks to the estrangement after his own parents divorced taking a child each, this is far from the privately educated protagonists of yore. Ives which I must now visit but what holds the whole thing together is Laura who is a well-crafted and relatable character in that she is a flawed as she is adventurous. This is on Coast Guard property and was closed to the public in 2020 due to idiots trying to take selfies on the rocks and the Coast Guard not wanting to deal with it anymore.Because she kept reminding us, the reader, HOW MUCH SHE loved the freedom and how the other families didn't trust her that much. Deadman’s Cove is a rock and pebble beach between Portreath and Godrevy, also known as North Cliffs beach.
