Carpenters’ scribes will often mark the workpiece with a pencil line instead of a metal pointed tip. They are hardy for their size and are usually made from metals like aluminium and steel alloy with a tip made from tungsten carbide or another hard material like diamond.

They can also be used with various hand tools and are used to mark out the areas to be measured or cut etc. Scribing tools are simple and easy to use and are often used with various other hand tools including saws, chisels, hammers and more when carrying out various tasks such as carving or measuring.
