Our latest catch up was after a recent visit to Johnnie Walker Land in Edinburgh where I picked up another bottle of the 12 years release.

Rather than some great trek, pouring yourself a dram from something ‘core range’ now feels more like a leisurely stroll in a familiar neighbourhood.Over the years, Knockando has honed its techniques, creating whiskies that embody the distinct character of the region. The little huddle of traditional distillery buildings, complete with an elegant pagoda roof, lie in the town of the same name overlooking the River Spey. Single malt Scotch whisky from the Knockando distillery in the prolific Speyside region, aged for a dozen years before being bottled. So, with familiarity breeding contempt, we quickly turn our backs on those first whiskies and set out to discover something, perhaps, more glamorous; something seemingly more unusual; something undoubtedly less consistent. Built by John Thompson in 1898, the Knockando distillery lies in the village of the same name, derived from the Gaelic ‘Cnoc-an-dhu’ meaning ‘little black hill’. Tasting Notes: Especially delicate, fruity and subtle Speyside: smooth but complex layers of flowery, nutty and slightly smoky notes.

You are responsible for the accuracy of the information you provide to us in relation to your account, and for updating it where necessary. Time is another key element, as gentle maturation in oak casks slowly reveal the subtle aromas of Knockando : delicate with a distinctive fresh almond note in its younger versions, it gains weight and depth of flavour over the years. We'll send them to be recycled and you'll save paper, carbon emissions and time at the recycling centre! In each bottle you will only ever find the produce of one single Season – a practice which continues to distinguish Knockando from almost all other single malts. The quantity of peat used in malting the barley is carefully controlled so as not to overbalance the taste of the final product. Although not exactly a complete facelift, this Knockando has certainly been on the receiving end of a wee bit of Botox. Bearing all the hall marks of the finest Speyside single malts – subtle and fruity with smooth floral layers with nutty and lightly smoky notes.
