In Program Mode both the aperture and shutter speed are controlled by the camera but you can select other settings: With Drive Mode you can select from Single Shot, Continuous Shooting or Self-timer; Metering Mode allows you to specify the area of the image you wish the camera to use to calculate exposure; White Balance setting means you can determine what the camera reads as white to allow for your specific lighting conditions; and Flash Mode gives you control over your flash settings. You can also take either single or continuous stills during recording, with video capture continuing after the final still frame has been taken. Picture Style presets applied to a RAW image can be revised with Canon’s Digital Photo Professional software. Available in increasingly large capacities these provide an inexpensive way to extend the cameras capacity. The Canon EOS 500D's dust-removal technology, where the sensor is shaken briefly at high frequency to dislodge any dust particles from its surface, has been upgraded with a fluorine coating on the low-pass filter for better dust resistance. Slipping neatly into the company's digital SLR product line between the EOS 450D and the EOS 40D, the Canon EOS 500D, pushes the EOS 400D off the edge of the bed into discontinuity. There's a built-in microphone on the front of the camera for mono recording, but sadly there's no socket for connecting an external stereo microphone, as on the 5D Mark II.Canon's system is obviously limited by which lenses you choose, but it does offer the slight advantage of showing the stabilising effect through the viewfinder. The Canon EOS 500D also has that all important 1080p Full HD Movie mode, accessed by selecting from the shooting menu on the top dial (it works in much the same way as the LiveView mode). A large, bright 3-inch Clear View LCD monitor with ultra-high 920,000 pixel resolution, a viewing angle of 170 degrees and dual anti-reflection coatings makes it easy to preview, review and share your shots even when you are using the camera in bright sunlight. So what does the new Canon 500D bring that is unique from the others, and has caused it to gain so much attention? I am a serious amateur photographer, and this is my honest and unbiased review of the Canon EOS 500D Twin Lens Kit.
