About this deal

The whole box is quite pretentious for someone who claims to be greenwashed, full of useless paper, cardboard and plastic. The three outtakes included with the reissue are “Bad Fog of Loneliness,” “Journey Through the Past,” and “Dance Dance Dance,” the latter two of which are also performed in the BBC set. The BBC word mark and logo is a trade mark of the British Broadcasting Corporation and is used under license from BBC Worldwide. The film Harvest Time is a previously unseen 2-hour documentary filmed in 1971, documenting the Harvest sessions. Both the CD and vinyl box sets come with a DVD of the concert and the two-hour documentary Harvest Time, shot during the marking of Harvest.

If there is a certificate we’ve missed out on then it’s probably for a 50 metre swim badge at the local swimming baths. Highlights of Harvest Time include recording sessions with David Crosby, Stephen Stills and Graham Nash (the scene with Crosby is especially jarring, as he and Young are very dedicated to the idea of never speaking again). The song features a young man shooting for a fresh start after a love gone sour, but there’s an old-man weariness – “See the lonely boy, out on the weekend/Trying to make it pay” – that creeps in and ends up defining the entire record, particularly on “Old Man” and “Heart of Gold.

That's not the real Neil' spat a Neil Young superfan when I mentioned that 'Harvest' was my favourite Neil Young album.
