About this deal

But when human remains are discovered at a former children’s home, disturbing secrets are also unearthed. There’s a lot going on with the characters (individually and as a team), the cases and the situation with Burns. But this book was amazing, and although it's touted as "can be read as a stand-alone", I totally disagree. An absolutely heart-stopping mystery thriller that will keep you glued to the pages, reading late into the night.

While many other long running series lose their impact this series still holds my full attention and goes from strength to strength. When Kim discovers that he’s forced Stacey to stop investigating the apparent suicide of a young man, she can’t help but get involved, introducing her to the murky world of sexual reorientation clinics. While the mysteries are compelling and most standalone, it’s the character development that is the most interesting. In her last investigation, Kim came very close to death and has been absent from work for two months. There are some developments on a personal level in Hidden Scars, but thankfully nothing with a negative impact this time around.

I knew very little about these horrific camps or clinics beforehand but as always Marsons took great care and an empathetic hand when exploring them.

Marsons gives readers glimpses into their private lives which helps to fully flesh out the characters while showing character development over the course of this series.
