About this deal

Her eyes are the same eyes, the exact startling blue of her father’s, but here they are unadorned, not yet blackly lined and painted like those of the teenager I’ve come to know so well.

A reply to a GR query told me why mum committed suicide but I can’t say I’ve spotted it in the text. For all ebook purchases, you will be prompted to create an account or login with your existing HarperCollins username and password. My Naughty Little Sister has charmed generations of adults and children alike thanks to Dorothy Edwards’ playful stories and Shirley Hughes’ beautiful illustrations. Jonah hates playing her little game – but he also knows she will shut down if he doesn’t, and that will end any chance he has of finding whoever the blood belongs to.

This entire book was twisty, but at the halfway mark things are really flipped on their head when Ashdown delivers a killer plot twist. At some point in the life of every single human being who walks this Earth, they will construct a lie, whether large or small. Karen's Roller Skates: Karen breaks her wrist after losing her balance on her new roller skates and needs to get a cast. Little Sister starts as it means to go on with an intriguing but incredibly disconcerting prologue which sets the tone for the entire book.

I found myself skimming over her chapters, trying to get through her groveling as quickly as possible. Life is good in the family as Jess fits in well, then James and Emily go out to a New Year's Eve party, leaving Jess to babysit Daisy. Jonah Sheens is at the pub with his daughter Milly, enjoying nice weather, a rare moment of quiet from his infant and a pint, when a young girl wanders onto the grounds. Colman tells her class that they are going to adopt a grandparent, she adopts a grandmother and now has five.

She used goes to reason where I'd have used stands to reason, born was used and not borne and the second a wasn't needed here-"She'd had a few a blips" and purposely was used and not purposefully. As we leave the clean light of the kitchen and pass through the dining room, I glance back at Emily and James, now seated around the family table with two other officers, a photograph of Daisy placed starkly in the space between them. It becomes clear relatively early in the book who is responsible for Daisy's disappearance but the growing understanding of the sisters and their convoluted relationship holds the novel together. I want to feel more, but I can’t, my senses deadened by the impact of the fall, my thoughts and emotions slow to respond. She nurses her quiet drab life, keeping memories of a tumultuous earlier time at bay, until one stray remnant of that old life knocks on her front door.
