About this deal

Access-restricted-item true Addeddate 2022-01-01 14:46:04 Bookplateleaf 0004 Boxid IA40176218 Camera Sony Alpha-A6300 (Control) Collection_set printdisabled External-identifier Meet Me Under the Ombu Tree is the unforgettable, evocative, and moving tale of forgiveness and love. It follows the lives of the Solanas family living in the tumultuous years of political turmoil in Argentina. Sofia Solanas is the lead character, a proud, resourceful, wilful, spoilt daughter of Argentine nobility. She lives on an expansive ranch and has been brought up under the spiritual practices of the gauchos, and the time-honored traditions of her highborn parents. Everybody seems to love Sofia except for Anna, her Irish mother who visits her sense of inadequacy and alienation on her daughter. When Sofia gets into a steamy love affair that her mother believes would disgrace the family if it ever came out, she banishes Sofia to Europe. By sending her away, she inadvertently exiles the daughter not only from her soul mate for over a decade but also from her family. The prose is polished and rich. The characters are flawed, driven, eccentric, and alluring. And the exceptionally compelling, well-paced plot is filled with familial dynamics, drama, emotion, self-discovery, secrets, revelations, love, loss, heartbreak, courage, duty, and passion all surrounded by authentic historical events of the time.

Most of Montefiore’s novels touching, magical and remarkable as they are, are a combination of real life experiences/stories and some fiction. The stories, plots, and characters that she writes about from the first novel Meet Me Under Ombu Tree and the other novels that followed are a sum of her experiences. Most of the characters in the novels have to deal with many painful experiences that the author asserts are important as a nostalgic way of reliving the past and making sense of the present. Nonetheless, the books are written to touch people on a spiritual and emotional level even as they entertain. While her very first novel was set in Argentina, her preceding novels have been in Chile, France, and Italy, countries that tend to have the same herb scented, balmy, and warm breezes just like Argentina. She has also done one of her novels in the wild beaches of Connemara, Ireland for its melancholy, gothic, and haunting tone that were missing in the other novels. Nobody does epic romance like Santa Montefiore. Everything she writes, she writes from the heart' Jojo Moyes

The Last Secret of the Deverills is the third and last novel in Santa Montefiore's Deverill trilogy. Spanning the course of at least 100 years we follow the Deverill family and all there chaotic wrong doings during England and Ireland's political disputes. We follow young Kitty from an infant all the way up to a mature lady. Despite all the atrocious life choices this family make, I swiftly fell in love with each and every character making this a very engaging read. This is the third novel of the Deverill Chronicles. This saga actually begins in 1600’s when Maggie O’Leary puts a curse on the Deverills. Apparently the Deverill’s decided to build a castle on O’Leary land. I came into The Daughters of Castle Deverill, the second book in a series written by established British author Santa Montefiore, having just read its predecessor, Songs of Love and War. Although it is not essential to have read the first book, Songs of Love and War, to enjoy The Daughters of Castle Deverill, I believe it enhanced my reading experience. It gave me a good handle on the characters and the scene that had been set. However, Montefiore does devote time in the Daughters of Castle Deverill in keeping her readers up to speed on her characters and their lives, which enables the book to also be read as a standalone novel.

This saga is beautifully written. I couldn’t stop listening to it and will miss the wonderful Irish voices. Sigh. I'm actually rather bummed that my journey with the Deverills is over. Even though the book did what I feared and wrapped some things up easier and neater than I would like, some of the ending parts were satisfying and I think I'm going to have a bit of a book hangover from this trilogy. Which is not necessarily a bad thing. I already miss the beautifully descriptive, emotion-evoking writing and the vivid pictures of Ireland and London that Montefiore provides throughout the book. Castle Deverill, cherished home to the Deverill family in the west of Ireland for hundreds of years, has burned to the ground. But young and flighty Celia Deverill is determined to restore the sad ruin to its former glory. Celia married well and has the wealth to keep it in the family... and she cannot bear to see her beloved home stand neglected.

Fall in love with beloved bestselling author Santa Montefiore's epic tale of romance, secrets, family and friendship. Orkar Harry hålla sin hemlighet för sig själv?I just loved this series, but could not continue as my library was closed do to COVID 19. I found that I could borrow an audio copy of this wonderful book from Overdrive. I have never read a audiobook and had no desire to do so. Food and drinks are mentioned here and there. I wanted to represent both social economic divisions so I brought a Pomegranate Martini which would appeal to the Deverill family and Scones with cream and jam for the Doyle and O'Leary families.
