About this deal

Replace the dado set with a standard blade, raise the blade height to 3/8 inch, and then set the saw fence 7⁄16 inch from the blade. With the bottom edge against the fence and the inside facedown, cut a kerf in each short side. Now adjust the fence away from the blade about 1⁄16 inch, and make another pass through each of the short sides. Step 4: Cut out the handles Add the remaining flour and instant coffee powder, mixing until just combined. Stir in chopped walnuts. I had to take 3 photos of the ingredients for the cake and frosting because there are quite a few ingredients, although they are all regular pantry staples. Cake ingredients Remove from the oven. And because I love coffee, my favorite cake recipe is the coffee and walnut cake recipe. I found it in Mary Berry’s Fast Cakes recipe book. Preheat the oven to 180C/160C Fan/Gas 4. Glossary

Butter - at room temperature to make for easier mixing. Use salted or unsalted - it won't make any difference. Carrots - there are no substitutions here - this is a carrot cake after all 🙂 . When grating the carrots, use the largest holes on a cheese grater and keep the carrot perpendicular to the grater so that you don't get long strands of carrots. I would also tend to avoid shop-bought grated carrots as these can be quite dry and will upset the moisture content of the cake.

It is amazingly easy to make. Just mix all the wet ingredients together and then add them to the dry. Job done! There's no beating of butter and sugar because this carrot cake is made with oil. I love using brown sugars in cake baking. They add a slightly nutty, caramel flavour. If you only have white caster sugar or granulated sugar, that will be fine. You may need to beat the granulated sugar, which has a larger crystal, a little longer to get a fluffy result. To remove the baking parchment from the bottom of the cake, place a sheet of aluminium foil over the cake and then cover it with a large wooden breadboard. Combine the butter, dates, boiling water and instant coffee granules in a large mixing bowl. Mix to combine and leave for 30 minutes for the butter to melt and the dates to soften. Believe me, once you've tried this carrot cake traybake you will throw away all your other carrot cake recipes. This carrot and walnut cake has it all. When looking for ideas for new woodworking projects, Tom is often inspired by construction details he spots on everyday objects from the past. In this case, he drew up a plan for a serving tray that relies on the same sturdy joinery found on wood boxes from a century or more ago. Those who love baking will almost definitely know who Mary Berry is, the baking queen from the UK whose recipes are failproof. Spread the frosting evenly and rustically over the cooled cake using a palette knife. Sprinkle with chopped roasted walnuts and coffee beans and dust with a little cocoa powder. Cut into generous squares and serve at room temperature. Sift the flour, baking powder and a pinch of salt into the bowl and mix until smooth. Add all but 1 tablespoon of the chopped walnuts and mix again. Scoop the mixture into the prepared tin, spread level and scatter the remaining walnuts and demerara sugar over the top. If you have made 2 round cakes, sandwich the cakes together with half of the frosting and then spread the remaining frosting over the top..
