About this deal

Digging deeper into the settings, you’ll find a separate control panel for managing satellite devices including AVM Fritz! Repeaters, which can form a mesh network, as well as a USB/Storage menu, which allows you to manage the contents of and connections to a NAS drive. You can also tinker with Wi-Fi channels, which is handy if you’re living somewhere where there’s a lot of interference from other people’s networking devices. Our test environment only has 100+ Mbit broadband, and it was possible to get all of this speed with the 5GHz channel when two walls and a single floor away from the router. The FRITZ!Box 7530 AX includes a telephone system for modern IP-based connections. With DECT you can create a telephone system with up to six cordless phones. There are also ports for connecting your analog telephone or fax machine. Multiple answering machines, online telephone books and numerous convenience features make phone calls via the FRITZ!Box 7530 AX a joy. A variety of connections

At close range, using an AC-capable WiFi adapter, it is possible to achieve close to 900Mbit/s, though this would only be to a local NAS box or server unless you have 1000Mbit or better Internet. What I can comment on is the speeds detected using the WiFi Speed Test Pro app on a pair of Android phones – a Huawei Mate 10 Pro and a The Upstairs test is taken one storey up and roughly 15 metres away from the router, while the Garden test is approximately 20 metres away, with two closed doors and two load-bearing walls between the router and the clients. Results below are averages, rounded up: Wi-Fi 5 test When this reviewer covered the original 7950 model five years ago, I described its appearance as being a ‘little too Jetsons’, and the 7590 AX has a similar signature styling. How many devices can I connect to the Fritz!Box 7530 AX? The Fritz!Box 7530 AX can support a large number of connected devices, making it suitable for households with multiple users and devices. The Router has a slightly unusual 3×3 5Ghz radio, so it should be able to handle a bit more congestion than many 2×2 routers. However, with WiFi 6 clients, you can only connect at 2×2, and this is limited to the 80Mhz channel width giving you a theoretical maximum throughput of 1200Mbps. First of all, a reminder than the FRITZ!Box 7530 AX hasn’t had a UK launch, and there doesn’t seem to be any immediate plans to launch it. Which limits the appeal since most of my readers are in the UK. However, it is not a huge problem dealing with two-pin plugs. Many router makers, Netgear being a prime example, want customers to use a mobile application to configure a router for deployment. The downsides of this approach are that it assumes the installation application is compatible with the phone or tablet of the customer and that the services it links to across the Internet are available. It's great to have so many options and the FRITZ!Box 7590 offers more than you could ever truly need. The only issue we encountered was that some of the processes inevitably lead to updates and reboots of the router. When these reboots occur, the wizard stops working because the phone can connect to another WiFi service.

Connecting to my desktop WiFi with the Router in the same room, I was able to achieve throughput speeds of 834Mbits/sec, which is consistent with other similarly specced WiFi 6 devices I have used, including the Unifi 6 Lite and Netgear Nighthawk MK63. Does the Fritz!Box 7530 AX support Wi-Fi 6? Yes, the Fritz!Box 7530 AX supports Wi-Fi 6, which provides faster speeds and improved network coverage. Most brands seem to have given up on VDLS modem routers, so it is just the ASUS DSL-AX82U competing that also has WiFi 6. Set the connection as “DSL line”, set account information to “NO”, the only requirement is to have “Use VLAN for internet access” enabled using “VLAN-ID 10 / PBit 0”, no need to modify the 1/32 DSL ATM settings. WiFi 6 Performance

The only real disappointment for this reviewer is that there isn’t a UK-specific version, only an international model. With the right cables, kindly provided by AVM for this review, it will work with UK phones, and the power supply can be easily converted. More regionally specific solutions are always preferable, obviously.
