About this deal

A base, or a venting layer, is usually installed on a primed, non-combustible substrate. This is generally partially bonded. This is followed by an intermediate layer of the felt roof build-up, a waterproofing membrane. High-performance systems use glass fibre-based membranes coated in oxidised bitumen that is sand finished and fully bonded. A cap sheet is the final layer. These are often coated with APP or SBS rubber modified bitumen. To carry out the ridge detailing cut the individual tabs from a strip mitred by 40mm. On the roof again use a chalk line or straight edge to ensure correct positioning and alignment. Starting at one end locate the tap with the mitred edge, pointing along the ridge. Nail into position, ensuring that each ridge shingle overlaps the previous one, exposing about 145mm. Next, you need to make shingle strips for the roof edges. Cut off the tabs from a single shingle strip to create the detailing pieces. Aesthetics: Available in a range of styles, colours, and textures, felt shingles give you the freedom to create the perfect aesthetic for you. They are recommending IKO Glass Fibre Underlay 20m (Type 3B). This is similar to a standard roofing felt and if you are choosing to use a membrane we would recommend felt over the IKO membrane.

Roofing felt is used to achieve a waterproof and durable finish on top of shed roofs, garden building roofs and outhouses. Available as torch-on bitumen felt or self-adhesive bitumen felt, leading manufacturers such as IKO and Icopal make up our range of roofing felt so you can be sure no matter which product you choose that your roofing felt will be of the highest quality. To set the first row of shingles you will need to trim some material from one edge of the shingle strip before fixing them at the eaves. With the square butt shingles, this should be 125mm. Or if using fishscale shingles, trim off 100mm. You’ll need to do this for all odd-numbered rows. Here at Roofing Superstore, we have everything you need to felt your roof, from roofing felt and nails to timber battens and plywood. If you’re unsure of anything or have any questions, don’t hesitate to get in touch – call our team of experts on 01752 692760 or use the live chat in the bottom right-hand corner. At the corners of the roof, cut the roofing shingles to create an overlap when Folded around the corner, then nail this into position. Fixing The Felt Shingles in Place

Another benefit of using felt on a roof is that it is relatively inexpensive, whilst still providing a good and durable roofing surface. This is why it is perfect for low-scale and relatively low-budget projects, to create a functional yet low-cost roof. Each tile has a bitumen strip which melts in the heat of the sun securing your shingles. As an option we offer felt shingle glue and this is also recommended by IKO. We recommend bitumen glue is at least used on the ridge tiles and the first leading edge roof tiles. We recommend shingle glue is used especially in the colder months as it takes longer for the bitumen glue to melt. Shingle glue is also highly recommended in very exposed locations. Strength:Felt roof shingles provide impressive durability thanks to sturdy build-quality and a resilient external coating. Next, lay the second layer of felt on the roof. Ensure any joins on the first layer are overlapped, and any air bubbles have been smoothed out, and then nail it down as before. 8. Spread adhesive

Now spread a layer of felt adhesive over your nailed-down roof sheets. This should be relatively thin and even. 7. Lay the second layer of felt Use whole shingle strips for the second and all even-numbered rows to create a staggering effect from 25mm above each cutout and 25mm in from each edge. Felt is an extremely lightweight material, which means it can be used on a number of weaker and less structurally sound buildings, such as garden sheds and outbuildings without any concerns that it will be too heavy. Next, measure the surface of the shed roofing to calculate how much felt you’ll need – don’t forget to add an extra 5-7.5cm for overlaps at the edges and the gables. Generally, if felting a pitched shed roof you’ll require 3 pieces of felt – 1 for each side and then one to overlap the two edges, but this may vary depending on the size of the shed roof and the width of the felt rolls. 3. Lay the first piece of felt Felt roof repair is relatively easy. The material can simply be patched up if there is a tear or hole in the roof, unlike other roof materials that can have a much more complex and time-consuming repair process. Budget-friendly Ashbrook Roofing feels sure that you’ll agree, that a few hours of work to fit felt roof shingles will dramatically improve the look of your shed and not only increase its lifespan but protect its contents from the worst of the British weather. Bitumen felt shingles are manufactured by pressing granules into a glass fibre bitumen felt strip. These strips feature designs like ‘ square butt’, which is a simple square pattern on the finished roof, or ‘ hexagonal’ which offers more contemporary hexagonal finishes. You’re also able to find ‘ half round’ style bitumen felt shingles which are the most traditional types of shingles that give a scalloped look. A Supaflex Ridge Roll is available, this is a 10m roll-out ridge roll designed to match the colours of the Supaflex Shingles. These rolls are 10m in length and made of the same high-quality materials that the Supaflex shingles are made of. Each roll has a bitumen base that has been covered in high quality coloured mineral finish. These rolls are heavy-duty and come with free 20mm nails.

Cost-Effective:Few roofing materials offer the same combination of performance and affordability, saving on materials and labour.

Preparing The Roof  For Felt Shingles

Versatile: Suitable for roofs with pitches between 12° and 90°, roof shingles are compatible with an extensive range of properties and buildings. Once you have added the shingles to both slopes of your roof, you should be ready to apply to ridge detail. For this task, you can use traditional shingles cut to shape or a shingle ridge roll. Felt Roof Ridge Generally we do not see the need for the placement of a membrane (roofing felt or IKO underlay for all garden buildings as it is not generally necessary for leisure buildings and has not been recommended for over 15 years.
