About this deal

This bar features a peanut butter flavoured base topped with a gooey strawberry layer and spindled with peanut pieces, then coated in milk chocolate. To a large mixing bowl add butter, brown sugar and granulated sugar. Beat with electric mixers (or in your stand mixer) until well creamed together, about 3 minutes. Add egg and vanilla and mix well. Taking a bite, the overwhelming flavour is strawberry and it’s actually very similar to a McDonald’s strawberry milkshake. It’s definitely an artificial flavour (think strawberries on steroids) but it’s by no means unpleasant.

The orange flavour is just right with this one – it’s not artificial or bitter, and it doesn’t overpower the chocolate flavour. I would have liked something a little more different from the standard Carb Killa range than simply the addition of orange flavour – surely if you’re going to call something ‘Jaffa’ you need a jelly layer… And if that’s not enough… Wrapped in Grenade’s signature low sugar chocolate, we have added a topping of real OREO pieces; exclusively developed by the masterminds at OREO to maintain our low sugar commitment. This is not to be missed. This is the real deal. This is Grenade OREO. Before we start, I will say it smells amazing – very strong strawberry and buttery (honestly) white chocolate.Add dry ingredients and mix just until incorporated. Stir in Oreos and white chocolate chips. Press dough into pan. After some more ‘adventurous’ flavours, Grenade have reigned it in with this offering and returned to a chocolatey comfort zone. The centre is soft, fudgey and slightly chewy, just like the previous two bars but this time with a nice chocolate flavour. The caramel layer adds a richness and a hint of salt which mixes well with the chocolate coating to create an overall flavour that reminds of, well, a fudge brownie!

Add ins: Try mixing in crushed pretzels, a little bit of peanut butter, or even chocolate chips. You can customize your Oreo Bark in a variety of ways to match your personal tastes or the occasion. Texture-wise, it’s pretty similar to the other Grenade bar flavours, except the creme offers a smoother, creamier, texture than Grenade’s usual caramel layer and the Oreo pieces are less crunchy than the crispies found on the likes of Caramel Chaos and Jaffa Quake. After the successes of my M&M Cookie Bars, and Rolo Cookie Bars, I thought I would do something similar, so the Oreo Cookie Bars happened. HOWEVER… I knew that if I just did a cookie mixture, with some Oreos, it would be too dry. This meant I needed something Chocolatey! I had coincidentally been given one of the ‘Cadbury’s Big Bars’ for Christmas and it was the Oreo one, and this just seemed to ideal to miss it. The actual Oreo part of it is different to regular Oreos, but you also have the chocolate you need in a cookie. You can easily buy Cadburys Oreo bars now, so you don’t even need the Big Bar one that I used, just the amount of chocolate, and some regular Oreos to put on top and decorate with and give it a bit more Oreo oomph. These Oreo cookie bars should be stored in an airtight food storage container. They will last at least three days, but they do become more dense the longer they’re kept. They do not freeze well.
