Guru Ram Das is the fourth Sikh Guru. He was born in Lahore, Pakistan. His father’s name was Hardas Ji Sodhi and his mother was Mata Daya Kaur Ji. He married the daughter of Guru Amar Das, Bibi Bhani Ji. The 10th Sikh Guru name is Guru Gobind Singh was the last of the human Sikh gurus. He was born in 1666 and was the son of Guru Tegh Bahadur. Like the preceding Sikh Gurus, Guru Ram Das had mystical visions and wrote songs explaining the nature of the Divine and the human experience. Among his compositions is the Lavaan– the Sikh wedding ceremony – which he composed on his own wedding day to Bibi Bhani. He also wrote four songs known as the Engagement Shabads as well as many other compositions.

He introduced the Khalsa, or ‘pure ones’ and the ‘ five Ks'. Just before he died in 1708, he proclaimed Guru Granth Sahib - the Sikh scripture - as the future guru. I never knew about Guru Nanak's arms, but I am told that Guru Ram Das had a really LONG beard, so most pictures of him have this and that's how I know it is a representation of him. Guru Gobind Singh is OFTEN shown on his horse, Guru Hargobind always has 2 swords, etc. So certain things are consistent for each Guru in the paintings and pictures we have. Guru Angad was the second of the Sikh gurus and was born in 1504. He created the Gurmukhi, which is the written form of the language Punjabi and taught this to many Sikhs throughout his life. Soon, this became very well-known among people. Shabads in 30 Ragas [Sukhmani, Barah Maah, 52 Akhri, Gunvanti, 6 Vaars in Gaurhi, Goojri, Jaitsari, Ramkali, Maaru & Basant]Point this out to pupils. Ask them to think about the movies they like: examples could include A Bug’s Life, Monsters Inc, Toy Story and many others. Are the characters either all good or all bad? Or can they think of a time in these movies where someone changes from selfish to kind? Watch a beautiful video story about the miracle of Guru Ram Das, who is known as the Lord of Miracles here. Guru Ram Das also encouraged people to start small businesses. He helped establish Amritsar as the religious center for the Sikhs. According to Sikh beliefs, all the Gurus contained the same light or soul and their physical body was a vessel for containing the same essence. When one Guru passed, the successor inherited this light and that is why the Gurus are also referred to as mahalla (house). [7] The gurus [ edit ] No. The story of Bhai Kanhaiya, he served water to wounded enemy soldiers, is just one of the many stories passed down over the years to help explain Sikh values. But some of the most famous are about Guru Nanak, the first guru and the founder of Sikhism.

Guru Nanak’s father tried to teach him to help with his business. He sent him to the market to buy food and then sell it for a profit. Instead of selling the food, Guru Nanak gave it to the holy men he met at the side of the road. They were meditating and had very little. Guru Nanak’s father was unhappy with him as he hadn’t learned about profit. Guru Gobind Rai, who later became Guru Gobind Singh is the tenth Sikh Guru. He lived for 42 years. He was born in Patna, India and he breathed his last in Nanded, India, where the Gurdwara of Hazoor Sahib is established. His father was Guru Teg Bahadur and his mother was Mata Gujri. His wives were Mata Jeeto, Mata Sundari and Mata Sahib Kaur. He had four sons, Ajit Singh, Jujhar Singh, Zorawar Singh and Fateh Singh. Sat Siri Akal Ji. First of all having photos of any of the 10 Gurus in your house and WORSHIPING the photos are 2 different things. Each Guru was so special and inspiring in his own way! When I see a picture of Guru Gobind Singh, I am inspired to remember all he gave us. For example, I keep one in my house because he is our Khalsa father, is he not? In a way, it is like having family photos in the house/place. You are absolutely right that we are not to worship ANY (physical) representation of Guru; we worship--bow only to Siri Guru. In Sikhism there are loads of famous stories about the ten gurus and their teachings. They help us to find out more about what it means to be a good Sikh. The temple remains open on all sides and at all times to everyone. This indicates that the Sikhs believe in One God who has no partiality for any particular place, direction or time.Guru Nanak | Guru Angad | Guru Amar Das | Guru Ram Das | Guru Arjan | Guru Hargobind | Guru Har Rai | Guru Har Krishan | Guru Teg Bahadur | Guru Gobind Singh
