About this deal

In July 2016, Derek Landy announced via a video blog that, although the Skulduggery Pleasant series was complete, the series as a whole was still set to continue with a sequel series. The first book of this sequel was released in June 2017, titled Resurrection. [2] While nine books were planned, the series was cut down to six books by HarperCollins after the publication of Seasons of War. The final book, Until the End, was released in April 2022. [3] In October 2022, Landy announced via YouTube livestream that a "one-off prequel" and "Book 0·1", Hell Breaks Loose, would release in March 2023. [4] Not long after, Eliza Scorn revealed that China Sorrows was actually the one who captured Skulduggery's wife. Scorn then destroyed China's Library. Skulduggery and Valkyrie abandoned the badly-injured Sorrows in the dirt and left in disgust.

The first novel was published in April 2007. The following novels were released each year afterward, with the exception of the fourth and fifth novels, Dark Days and Mortal Coil, which were both released in 2010. Landy was initially contracted to write three books, with any further books depending on how well the first trilogy sold. The success of the first novels ensured that the deal was extended first to six books and in 2011, HarperCollins signed the deal for the third and final trilogy. [1] The final book in the first series was published in August 2014. The new books in the second series began to be published annually in June 2017. Although Valkyrie had now been Darquesse for longer than ever, Skulduggery believes that she can still be saved. After a hesitation, Skulduggery agrees. They spend a long time fleeing from Vile, and they are joined by the White Cleaver. They run into Scapegrace, who has his head chopped off by the White Cleaver. They continue running, but Valkyrie is separated from Melancholia as monsters carry off with Valkyrie. They take her to a very tight part of the Caves, but eventually, Valkyrie manages to escape from it. Valkyrie manages to locate Melancholia again, but Lord Vile catches up with them. Realising that only way to defeat Vile, Valkyrie forces Melancholia to try and kill Valkyrie, which awakens Darquesse. Darquesse and Lord Vile engage in a huge fight, which takes them all around Ireland, including Liffey Bridge. Eventually, the two return to their former selves. It's not destiny. Even if it was, I've changed it. It's not happening." — Valkyrie telling a Remnant she has sealed her True Name, Skulduggery Pleasant: Mortal Coil

As of Bedlam, Militsa was officially Valkyrie's girlfriend. They enjoy each other's company and support each other throughout the books. Skulduggery Pleasant is a series of dark fantasy novels written by Irish author Derek Landy. Tom Percival is the series' illustrator. The books revolve around the adventures of fledgling detective Valkyrie Cain and her mentor Skulduggery Pleasant, along with other friends and allies. The central story concerns Valkyrie's struggle to stop evil forces threatening the world and her internal struggle to resist the darkness within. Another man appeared before Pleasant, this one French, who called himself 'the Validator'. He told him that the test was about Skulduggery and that only he could take it, and only he could pass or fail. A spin-off novel featuring Tanith Low taking place between the seventh and eighth books was released on 28 March 2013 in the U.K & Ireland and 1 April in other countries. The cover and title ( Tanith Low in... The Maleficent Seven: From the World of Skulduggery Pleasant) were released on 7 December 2012 after several delays, with Landy stating it to be his favourite book cover ever. Derek Landy: Everyone also had Harry Potter wands, Skulduggery having a wand that was a magnifying glass to focus his fire. The Lost Art of World Domination: (1–2) Set after Skulduggery Pleasant, Scaramouch Van Dreg manages to capture Skulduggery Pleasant. Originally included in Skulduggery Pleasant. It has been noted on various occasions that Valkyrie is extremely witty and sarcastic, frequently joking and bantering in life-or-death situations, possibly to mask her own fears or anxieties. Valkyrie and Skulduggery meet Mr. Bliss, who has agreed to help them get the Sceptre from the caves, at a Martello tower on the cliffs of Haggard. They show him the brooch, and he pushes Skulduggery off the cliff. Skulduggery and Valkyrie investigate the death of the Teleporter, Cameron Light. While investigating, Mr. Bliss tells them that the new Prime Detective, Remus Crux, would arrive soon and that Guild has agreed to meet Skulduggery and Valkyrie. As they leave, Crux arrives and reminds Skulduggery that he no longer works for the Sanctuary. Skulduggery and Valkyrie visit the Sanctuary to see Guild. He has an argument with them, and they leave. Outside, another Teleporter, Emmett Peregrine appears and asks Skulduggery for help. He offers protection to Peregrine, and he eventually agrees. The next day, Skulduggery and Valkyrie visit a lake that houses the Sea Hag, and the crime scene of a death of another Teleporter, Trope Kessel. The Sea Hag has claimed Kessel's corpse and lets Skulduggery and Valkyrie question the corpse. Skulduggery promises to bury the corpse if Kessel gives them information on how he was murdered. Skulduggery defeats the Sea Hag and they bury the corpse. As Darquesse, Valkyrie's personality undergoes a drastic, dark transformation. While still retaining her core behaviour and principals, as Darquesse is simply a darker version of her and not a separate entity, they are greatly twisted. She retains her witty, sarcastic personality, but it becomes cruel and malicious rather than playful. She relishes in causing and feeling pain and violence and is constantly seeking opponents who can actually challenge her. However, it has been noted that Darquesse is not inherently evil - simply cold, uncaring and above all curious in regards to her abilities and their limits. She is willing to ally herself with those who would usually be opposed to her, valuing self-preservation above all else. Peg has an emotional breakdown after Skulduggery explains to her that they don't actually love each other. She leaves, saddened, and Skulduggery is left to be teased by Valkyrie.
