I learnt quite a lot from this story too. In particular, Walker touches the history of the Cold War, the Rosenholz Dossier, the master list of all Stasi Intelligence agents, espionage and politics. In season 3 episode "A Perfect Day" Cold Case set a series rating record by attracting an audience of 19.36 million viewers. When I dove into that, I was like, ‘Oh my God, I didn’t realize that audio storytelling could really take you on such an insane ride,’” he says. “You could do it while you’re driving, you could it while you’re hiking, you could do it while you’re running. That’s what’s really exciting ...I think Audible gives the public an opportunity to plug and play. Like, ‘You know what? I’ve always wanted to read a book, but it’s a little scary. So, let me just go on a hike and press play and just be taken on a journey.’”

I found the investigative side quite compulsive this time round. First there is the question of identifying the corpse and the ensuing ramifications, which are considerable and extremely well done. I was amazed at how the plot developed from so little initially and how it drew in some old friends. I was hanging on every turn and wasn’t disappointed by the wonderful ending, which is neat, clever and very fitting. I loved it. Outstanding Individual Episode (in a Series without a Regular LGBT Character) (For episode "Boy Crazy") One of the podcast's more striking moments revolves around a friend of the victim. The woman had a memory of being sent a letter with a bunch of money and a warning to skip town not long after the murder. The message had seared into her brain for decades. But as revealed through Barker's reporting, few things about that memory are what they seem. Barker later presents the woman with pieces of evidence that radically challenge her core memory. You can almost hear a mind change. I have read the first three novels in this series and jumping forward to the 14th was not a problem. Many of the characters from previous books are involved in this story with the exception of Gigi, the faithful basset hound belonging to Bruno. However, Bruno has a newer dog, another basset hound called Balzac.Computer geek before telling Harney to be careful jumping on a moving train: "Be careful. This isn't like the movies where there is no blood. Because to, uh, borrow another movie's title, THERE WILL BE BLOOD." A little further investigation told Barker that several key figures in the Wiley case—Shelli’s sister and niece, her roommate at the time of the murder (who had been at her boyfriend’s home that night), and the police detective who had revived the cold case—were convinced that Lamb had killed Wiley. Lamb often stayed at a friend’s apartment in the same complex, he was there alone on the night of the crime, and his blood was found at the scene. But Lamb was a former police officer, well-known to the detectives investigating the crime, and his accusers insist that he was never taken seriously as a suspect for that reason. After the program's debut in 2003, the show was not released on DVD or Blu-ray due to licensing issues related to the use of contemporary music in each episode. This book gives a nice insight in the sharing of intelligence between the various countries, and the role the Stasi continues to play so many years after the Wall came down. And after all this time it finds its way into thé Dordogne as well.

Of course no Bruno novel would be complete without his cooking and the recipes. He has a bit of an idyllic lifestyle, growing his own fruit and vegetables, rearing hens and geese, hunting and bartering with his neighbours for what he can’t produce. It wouldn’t be for me but I like dipping into a lifestyle so totally different to mine. I find it fascinating. I don’t know if it’s just my impression but this novel seems to explore more of the local countryside and its history than other novels. Again all these snippets of information are fascinating and make me want to visit, that’ll be me and half of Europe. Bruno’s investigation leads him to discover that the dead man (now skeleton), was named Max. Max is the victim, Henri is the main suspect. Max and Henri were dating two girls, one of whom is still alive. Henri is identified, not only by the surviving woman, but several others as well. Danny Pino appeared as Valens in the CSI: NY episode “Cold Reveal”.
