Rather than focusing on cutting corners and reducing costs in any way they could, the developers over at KRK Systems decided to put together an awesome powered studio monitor working at much reduced operating temperatures improving audio integrity even further. The sweet spot is also big, making them a good choice for producers who roam around in their studio. The powerful 203W Class D amplifier produces an amazing 111dB SPL. More than adequate volume for usage in the studio. Clarity and balance are superb even at greater volumes. Before I buy these beasts, I went through 10’s of you tube videos to know whether they will be a good addition to my studio. I found allot of controversy, but I’ve decided to get them and decide for my self. It has a front-firing port to help with the low-end punch. As well as this, the low resonance enclosure within has been made to prevent any colorization of the sound and prevent distortion. We’ve already discussed the high-quality Kevlar divers, which are robust and powerful and have no issues driving the bounce of these cones.
The KRK Rokit Powered 8 G2 are studio monitors that are powered and made to give a high performance sound all in an affordable speaker for the home musician. I have used these many of times and have never had a bad mix out of them. They have dual power amps in each speaker and a very accurate response curve so it is easy to hear everything that is going on in my mixes. I did have to move them around a lot before I was comfortable with the sound or before I found the “sweet spot” in my studio. I am returning these because of the high noise. I used to use a pair of bookshelf speakers hooked up to a 1980's hifi amp and the noise was less than this set of monitors. As with the others in the G4, it holds too much of the KRK brand while also slightly striking out on its own (such as the bass port). Thus making these almost worse than useless for me, as I was looking for a pair of speakers that could sit on my desk about a meter away from my head. Yes I know these speakers would have been a bit big for that application but I wanted larger speakers for a better bass response at low volumes. The hiss is audible till about a 2 meters away. Simply put, if you’re looking for a powered studio monitor that can produce a serious punch on all frequencies, then there isn’t anything else you’d need.

The studio reference monitors also have a very generous sweet spot to play with, making them a great option for producers that like to move their speakers around often. KRK ROKIT monitors are among the most popular on the market, but it is fair to say that former ranges have been the subject of quite a lot of debate in audio communities. They look impressive, and they are marketed well, but some of the incarnations of their speakers have historically left a little to be desired when it comes to using them in the studio or as DJ monitors.
