About this deal

Because UV resins cure before they can run off your piece, they can be used on curved surfaces. Just brush them on. Wait just a minute for the brush strokes to settle, then cure under a light. You can do this with any UV resin, but Teresa Pandora Salgado sells her DeepShine Resin. If you’re new to UV resin, this is a great way to get started. Polyester Resin In this category, you’ll find artists’ acrylic varnishes, craft store varnishes, and polymer clay brand glazes. Acrylic varnishes contain acrylic polymer emulsion, which is an acrylic resin suspended in water. To save costs, they may also contain vinyl acrylic, vinyl stearate, vinyl acetate, polyurethane, or even polyvinyl acetate (PVA, such as in white glue). The specific formulas are usually a secret, so you’ll never know exactly what is in the varnish you choose. The plasticizers could still leach out even when you have cured the polymer clay. Just make sure not to use any of your products for handling or storing food as this substance is definitely not food-safe. It’s all too common for a newbie to find out about polymer clay and buy everything in the clay aisle at the craft store, assuming that it’s all required for working with polymer clay. Not only can this be very expensive, but you really don’t need most of the tools you’ll see for sale there. Start with some basics, then add more as your experience grows and you have a better idea of what you like to make. Clear Liquid Sculpey is also one of the clearest liquid clays (second to Fimo Liquid Clay) and they come in 2fl oz bottle. Buy Clear L iquid Sculpey Now.

Note the slight cloudiness of all but the Kato Liquid. This effect can be reduced greatly by coating the surface with Varathane, as you can see in the photo below. (Top to Bottom) Here’s Fimo Liquid, Sculpey Clear, and TLS that have been half-coated with Varathane to show that adding a varnish to the top of the cured liquid clay surface will enhance the clear and transparent result. Using Liquid Clay as a Clearcoat Regular polymer clay crafters use clay-shaping tools to form their creations. While liquid clay is a very different medium, there are specific tools for simplifying your liquid clay crafting process. Take your projects from great to amazing with these beginner-friendly liquid clay tools: TOP TIP: Don’t shake liquid polymer clay before you use it as this creates air bubbles. In one of my first attempts with the material I shook the bottle and squeezed the liquid straight into a mould and this happened – ultra bubbly miniature knife and spoon (the fork broke completely!). How Do You Bake Liquid Polymer Clay?Preserve objects: Suspend dried leaves, pressed flowers, spices, shells and paper cutouts in transparent liquid clay. Botanical details must be completely dried, as moisture can affect final quality. Fill a mold halfway with Liquid Sculpey ® Clear and bake it, then place your object, fill the mold to the top and then bake again. Create mixed-media projects in layers using different objects and effects. There are quite a few brands available for polymer clay, including Fimo, Sculpey, Cernit, Formello, Modello, Du-Kit, Pardo and Kato Polyclay. It is so sad to work hard creating something that breaks when it’s worn or used. It’s even more horrifying to realize that you’ve sold something that is made from weak clay and won’t be durable. Not all polymer clay brands are created equal and each has its uses and purposes. For making things that are thin or have areas that are thinner than 1/4″ (6mm), make sure that you’re using a strong clay such as Premo, Fimo, Pardo, Kato, Cernit, or Souffle. Sculpey III, Original Sculpey, Super Sculpey, and Bake Shop are all quite brittle after baking and should not be used, unsupported, in any area thinner than 1/4″ (6mm). These weaker brands do have their uses, however, so save them for other projects. Here’s more about choosing the best brand of polymer clay for your project. Glaze polymer clay: Use liquid clay as a bonded glaze on your baked polymer clay projects. Use a brush, makeup sponge or fingertip to coat a baked polymer clay piece with liquid clay, then surface-set it with a heat gun for a few minutes. Bake it fully in the oven for 15-30 minutes following instructions.

Jewelry pieces: Making earrings, pendants and charms is a breeze with Sculpey® 3D Jewelry, Cabochon and Bezel molds. Our time-saving Jewelry mold has a post included in each shape, so there’s no need to drill holes after creation! You only need to seal and protect what you put ON the surface of your polymer clay project. When you apply mica powders, chalks, glitter, or metal leaf to the surface of your polymer clay project, it will need to be protected if the item is subject to wear. Note thatlight dustings of chalk or mica, such as rosy cheeks on a sculpture, do not need to be sealed. The same holds true for dots of paint and antiquing in the recessed areas of a design.

Liquid clay is a pretty new thing as it was only introduced in the 90s. You can use it as an adhesive for two layers of polymer clay.

Renaissance Wax has persuasivemarketing that’s convinced many people, including many polymer clay artists, that it’s an all-purpose protective material. That’s not exactly true. It is a high-quality microcrystalline wax used to coat metals against corrosion and tarnish. It will also enrich the appearance ofmaterials such as tortoise shell or ivory. Because it’s acid-free, it doesn’t contain chemicals that can degrade artifacts. It is archival. But that doesn’t mean it’s a superior protective coating for all purposes. It can build up and attract dirt. Liquid polymer clay, including translucent and opaque, in clear and colours. Essential for creating baked clay to baked or raw clay connections. Recommended for adhering raw to raw clay. Also used to soften hard clay and to rescue crumbly clay. Use as a shiny or protective glaze, bake in a mould, use for pouring techniques and mix with mica powders for special effects. With clear liquid clay, it creates more of a glass like effect. So for projects where you want to see through the clay, you would use this. Also, some people like to use this as you would use resin to encase an art form or small object. Use the right kind of oven: Only use a conventional home oven or toaster oven for baking your clay, never a microwave. As always, make sure you wash your hands before and after each time you work with polymer clay. What are the different types of polymer clay? To use your Liquid Sculpey®, twist open the cap and gently squeeze while moving your hand in a smooth, even motion, and try these ways to create: Apparently, if you bake liquid polymer clay at a high temperature (around 140° or more) it is clearer once it’s cured. However, this does mean risking scorching the non-liquid polymer clay you’ll probably be baking it with. Do your own experiments with scrap clay before committing to using this technique to bake a miniature model. Use oven-safe silicone molds to cast multiples of the same shape time and time again! Liquid clay can be poured directly into Sculpey ® Polymer Clay Molds to produce earrings, bezels, pendants, geometric shapes, lace details and more. Here’s how:
