About this deal

White Raven’s young vineyard is located five miles south of our Tasting Room and Cellar, in a weather eddy of the Canyon in Columbia Falls, Montana. We proudly practice sustainable viniculture to help ensure our vineyard’s grapes remain as free as possible from harmful chemicals. As a result of our commitment to practicing sustainable viniculture, there is a visible weed and alternative ground crop presence in our vineyard.

Blood samples were drawn from 30 healthy volunteers (15 men and 15 women, with a mean age of 24.9 ± 8.2 years), without chronic disease and untreated by drugs. The volunteers did not use supplements or have special diets (vegetarian or vegan, etc.). The donors had not taken salicylic acid or its derivatives, nor any other non-steroid anti-inflammatory drugs for at least 2 weeks. They were also non-smokers. A complete blood count, biochemical analysis, food frequency and daily eating history (based on special prepared survey) were all collected. We established that that the range daily polyphenol intake came to 1803.4 ± 468.3 mg/day. Montana is a blank slate for vineyard development,” Vogel wrote. “The Montana wine industry can only grow.” Rubaiyat is a teinturier grape (red skins and flesh) that has shown potential for success in Oklahoma (even if Chambourcin is more planted). Oklahoma State University’s Viticulture and Enology program is helping viticulturists figure out the best wine grape species and cultivars for Oklahoma’s climate. Oklahoma Grape Industry CouncilIn August of 2022, White Raven Winery attended the 2nd Annual Montana Wine Festival and took home 1st PLACE in the (red) Vitis vinifera and (white) Vitis vinifera categories, as well as 2nd PLACE in the (red) Vitis riparia category! But artful wine-making means that we’re always watching the horizon. Marquette. A region seeded with berry wines and fruit ciders that now also produces many cold-hardy wine varieties. Hence the name of White Raven Winery which officially opened it’s tasting room doors in the old lap-sided auction house located in Columbia Heights, about a mile north of the junction of Highway 2 and 206.

I have said over and over, ‘You’ve got to let the wine be what it is,’” Roxann McGuire said. “Montana wines are different. Don’t expect them to be what you’re used to — know that they’re different when you try them and enjoy that they’re lighter and fruitier.” The bioavailability of polyphenols is an important element in the evaluation of their biological properties in vivo. Both concentrations tested in this study have been chosen based on a previous study where these concentrations showed non-cytotoxic effect [ 43]. The concentrations of flavonoids (1.5–6 µg/mL) present in the 15 µg/mL of GSE used in our work which have been calculated based on our chemical characterization of this extract [ 25] can be achieved in plasma during supplementation with these extracts. In the case of flavanols they reached plasma concentrations ranging from 1.5 to 2 µg/mL [ 44, 45, 46].

While many traditional wine drinkers poo-poo hybrid wine grapes saying that they taste “foxy,” many of these new species do not have the negative taste characteristics associated with them. If you would like to read more about French-hybrids, here is an article on 4 major wine varieties to know. Sevyal Blanc or Edelweiss are likely the most planted grapes in Connecticut. Others with potential include Baco Noir, De Chaunac, Vignoles, Cayuga White, Marechal Foch, Gamaret (the Swiss variety), Corot Noir, Traminette and Zweigelt. Connecticut Wine Trail The grapes that Roxann and Brian McGuire grow here are cold-hardy interspecies hybrids. Nearly all well-known wines — malbec, merlot, chardonnay, and more — are made from Vitis vinifera grapes. V. vinifera is a European grape species that consistently produces great wine but is not amenable to cold environments. In the U.S., you’ll find V. vinifera permeating California wine country, Oregon, and Washington.

But even as grapes become more feasible crops in Montana, winemakers like Thaden and the McGuires have legislative obstacles to overcome. As it’s written, the Montana Code Annotated presents certain hurdles to in-state winemakers. The bulk of the code was first written in the 1970s and 80s, before cold-hardy hybrid grapes were prominent on the commercial scene, and certainly before Montana had any kind of notable wine presence. What this means is that the code was first written primarily for the distribution and sale of out-of-state wine within Montana. And just because the in-state wine making industry has grown, doesn’t mean the legislation has caught up. Those who come to Montana to taste our wines are often most familiar with grapes derived from the more common Vitis vinifera vine as opposed to the Vitis riparia varietals grown here. Our wines are thus as honest, wild, and delightfully unexpected as Montana and its abundant landscapes—we’re in the pioneering stage of creating just what a signature Montana wine will become known for. Our Community plant per week. Refer to the irrigation section of this guide for more information on watering your vines as they mature.
