In 2010, Compare the Meerkat began expanding on Aleksandr Orlov with the Orlov Family Trilogy, which gave a origin story for Compare The Meerkat and the man behind it. A Book, known as 'A Simples Life' was released alongside the campaign.. [1] [2] The TV spots, and the characters, were directed by Darren Walsh. Meerkats on Safari
I’ve always been obsessed with audio and it’s got me on some huge projects. Voicing the vicious podracer Sebulba in The Phantom Menace was amazing. As a kid, I would build Star Wars sets out of Coke bottles and papier-mache. And there I was on set taking notes from George Lucas. Because of all the parts I’ve played, I often end up skipping the conventional casting process. People in creature effects just say: “It’s a tall skinny alien – we need Doug Jones.” I was playing the amphibian in the Oscar-winning film The Shape of Water when Star Trek: Discovery approached me. I was actually thinking “I’m not sure how much more rubber and glue I want in my life,” but there was no way I could turn it down. For Saru, I wear a four-piece prosthetic over my head that comes down past my collarbones, with gloves to change my hands. It’s all been moulded to my shape and pre-painted so getting it all glued on is only a two-hour process. I wear a Starfleet uniform like everybody else, but I do have special hoofed boots that add five inches to my height. That makes me about 6ft 8ins!
Return of the Jedi concluded the original saga, and for a long time this was my favourite of the Star Wars films. There was a little more brevity in this one, via the Ewoks, but with scenes like the Falcon’s swoop through the Death Star, Luke’s coming of age fight against Vader, and the epic fleet battle, it’s still a great film.

The final installment of the new saga was released in 2005, and it ramped up the action significantly, as well as the intrigue. This was the culmination of the entire Star Wars saga, and it gave us what we wanted. We got the defining duel between Anakin and Obi-wan. We got battles between powerful Sith Lords and Jedi Masters. We got space battles, and Wookiees, and lots of drama. It was the payoff at the end of a long journey, and it was totally worth it. After Oleg and Ayana's return in 2019, a new advert series was shown called Endless Adventures, where the meerkats would walk into a door and find themselves in a movie (which are usually made up ones except for Farmageddon, which was animated by Aardman, and also features Alexander's voice actor Simon Greenall). The meerkats were also known as fire rats. [2] In 9 ABY, [4] during their escape from the forces of Imperial warlord Moff Gideon, the bounty hunter Din Djarin and his companions encountered a group of meerkats on the banks of an underground lava river. The meerkats observed the bounty hunter's group as they ferried down the river. [1] Later, an Aqualish retrieved a captured meerkat from a cage with the intention of feeding the creature to their companions. Carasynthia Dune, the human Marshal, interrupted the group before the meal could be prepared, killing the Aqualish gang. The freed meerkat then expressed affection towards Dune which the human responded to by shooing the creature away. The meerkat continued to harass the human until she fed the creature.
