About this deal

This detailed English plan will support teachers in year 4 deliver an exciting and engaging persuasive unit. Wow! I love Gaiman's work. Will have to find this one. I'm sure the library has it. The illustrations seem to glow in an old sepia-colored newspapery way so they pull me in to the text immediately. Reply It's a deliciously daft concept, a quality Oliver Emanuel's script and Laura Hopkins's designs make the most of; but in execution, it is also gripping. However much we are entertained by the self-absorbed characters realised by Anthony Strachan and Rosalind Sydney, we can't forget they are delaying us in our increasingly nightmarish quest. Along the way, Neil learns humility and Little Sis discovers reserves of warmth, but the pleasure of the show is less as a morality tale than as a vivid journey into the imagination.

The Day I Swapped my Dad for Two Goldfish: Neil Gaiman and

At first I’m not sure if I like this or not, because it’s absurd—and that’s saying something because I’m all for the oddball stuff. I’m no stranger to Gaiman’s works, even the other books he penned for children (Coraline and The Graveyard Book). I think this is his first work where he actually explores the natural weirdness of a kid’s thoughts. I don’t know how he does this, but it’s like he wormed his way into a kid’s brain and sat there, jotting down all the ideas that float past him until he builds up a whole story. If I were a child and I were to read this, I bet I’d really enjoy it. But what I really liked about it is that it may slightly strike a chord with anyone who’s been a part of a typical family—you know, if you experienced petty sibling fights and noticed how your parents are sometimes oblivious to the *universe* haha. It’s all weird and cute. The idea of swapping a not very interesting Dad for two goldfish might seem absolutely absurd to an adult, but it’s perfectly normal and makes all the sense in the world to a kid. This is a bank of resources to support the teaching and learning for the book: The Day I Swapped My Dad for Two Goldfish by Neil Gaiman for Year 3, but I have also used it with Year 4 by adapting the resources and objectives to include adverbials and fronted adverbials. This story written by prolific author Neil Gaiman will enable children to build their literary repertoire by exploring other titles such as The Wolves in the Walls, Crazy Hair and Coraline. This story has a clear cyclical structure which will form the basis for children’s own writing. The mysterious and slightly sinister nature of the illustrations will pique children’s interest and provide the starting point for discussions around decision-making and consequences. Spelling Seed Overview: Overview:Why I Like This Book: I was attracted to this book by both the title (very unique, right?) and the artwork. What child hasn’t felt frustrated at one point by either a mother or father who’s completely wrapped up in something else? I bought this on a whim while browsing at a comic shop three or four years ago. The art is great (although the color tones are not my personal favorite); the story is just all right. The portrait of the big brother and his kid sister is fantastic kinds of real, but I guess I also expected the swapping thing to be really funny, and it was meh.
