About this deal

Darktail has a direct kill count of 16, however if we include Raggedstar's 9 lives Brokenstar will have a higher direct kill count. Brokenstar is one of the two secondary antagonists (alongside Ashfur) of Erin Hunter's Warriors book series. Chinese-born, Boston, MA-based writer and translator Ken Liu has done us a dear kindness by offering us this book. The man knows his genre fiction, has a beautiful taste for good, thought-provoking sci-fi, and was also the translator of two of the three books in Liu Cixin’s Three-Body Trilogy (which exploded in popularity in the West when recommended by President Obama himself – read our review here). Another fascinating but hopeless and sad story towards the end. I’m not sure exactly what the author’s intention was but my takeaway from it was that human beings have innate survival instincts that will help them live even in excruciating circumstances, but sometimes no one can escape their fate. It also foretells the the perils of extreme modernization as well as how people will become numb to their fellow humans suffering.

I also loved the first essay, "A Brief Introduction to Chinese Science Fiction and Fandom" by Regina Kanyu Wang. I read parts of this a while ago when it was published in Mithila Review, and reread the whole thing this time. It was very informative! Ha rozado las cinco estrellas, pero me han fallado algunos cuentos para dárselas. Aun así, es una muy buena antología).Lilac, a well-to-do space-age teenager and LaRoux Industries heiress comes across as your typical rich, superficial, and privileged girl. As the only child of the most powerful man in the universe, she must adhere to her overbearing father’s demands and show great care with the relationships she chooses. With her shallow and sometimes outright mean behavior, it’s easy to not find her likable, but in time, the reader can come to admire her bravery and enthusiasm. This story didn't feel like a sci-fi story to me at all. The best part of it was the ending. It totally caught me off guard because for some reason, I didn't think a Sci-Fi-story would have such a twist in store for me. But it did - and it was great! When I sat down to watch "Broken Star" I didn't even know about the movie, nor had I heard about it. I was given the chance to watch it, and decided to do so, because I was under the impression that it was going to be a horror movie, and it also had Tyler Labine in it, which was a plus for me. If you go to this restaurant and you have a better story to tell than all the other guests (who come from different planets), the head cook will personally prepare your food. And the best thing about it: You won't have to pay a dime. When Ah Chen enters the restaurant, Mo, the cook's daughter, instinctively knows that he has the greatest story to tell. And he does. It is the story of a poor, uninspired and unsuccessful author who doesn't flinch from sacrificing his life and his soul for the ability to write an outstanding book that no publisher would ever reject.Brambleclaw • Feathertail • Stormfur • Squirrelflight • Crowfeather • Tawnypelt • Leafpool • Hawkfrost • Mothwing I give you a life for judgement. ShadowClan stands at a place where the path ahead divides. choose to follow the right path, for the good of your Clan.

That is hampered by her discovery that Darryl is stalking her. Will she reject him this time? Probably so. Right, well I managed to endure 35 minutes of this meaningless and equally pointless endeavor that is known as "Broken Star". Wow, just wow. This movie totally failed to enthrall me and provided no form of entertainment in any possible way. An awesome read that reminded me of "The Picture of Dorian Gray" due to Ah Chen's obsession with the vision of becoming a successful author and his willingness to do anything to get there. I did like how for the most part, these are not just copies or versions of stories from the west. These are inherently Chinese, and I'm so glad to see more of this type of work being translated into English. Ken is also the translator for Liu Cixin's The Three-Body Problem, Hao Jingfang's Vagabonds, Chen Qiufan's Waste Tide, as well as the editor of Invisible Planets and Broken Stars, anthologies of contemporary Chinese science fiction.

I give you a life for honor. Honor is expected from all cats, but most of all, from a Clan leader. Use the honor of leadership carefully. Alderheart • Needletail • Twigbranch • Violetshine • Darktail • Tree • Rowanclaw • Tigerstar • Leafstar • Finleap Brokenstar is a matted, [25] dark brown tabby [3] tom [23] with a broad, flat face, [26] a bent tail, [9] and orange eyes. Brokenstar has shown to have absolutely no respect for other cats and clans, insulting any cat he sees. He has also been shown to be very callous towards his clan and other cats, only caring about himself. He does not care who dies or who gets injured, if he gets what he wants that's all that matters to him. It is also shown that he is remorseless of his actions, and seeing that if someone is too old or injured to fight they are better to be exiled because of them being a liability to the Clan. Yellowfang: StarClan have healed the wound that killed you. The others still need the skill of a medicine cat. Nightpelt, you are an intelligent and dedicated warrior. I know that you will do your best to pass on these qualities to Brokenpaw. StarClan will do nothing to stop me, old cat. I have made their Clan glorious! Let them try! You certainly won't stop me. Coupled with the stories themselves are also brief introductions to each writer before we dive in, and the book is crowned at the end by a collection of essays on science-fiction’s place in modern Chinese literature.

Unless otherwise indicated, the stories and essays in this volume are all translated by me. All footnotes should be assumed to have been added by me (or my cotranslator) unless prefaced with “Author’s note” or similar language. To make matters worse, her landlord who lives next door is monitoring her and he is obsessed with Markey. His name is Daryl (Tyler Labine) who has recently lost his grandmother. Daryl was the one who performed a mercy killing on her according to his story. Here is a list of my favorite bits from some of the stories—think of it as a stargazing photo album. You will all stay here. You will all be loyal to me. Or I will kill every one of you. (...) Say nothing to any cat. You will fight alongside us. And if I hear any one of you spreading rumors and lies among your Dark Forest Clanmates, you will suffer beyond anything you have ever known.
