About this deal

Jane is a member of the Romantic Novelists' Association and has a first class honours degree in creative writing. She becomes fascinated with finding out more about the cottage’s history and the young woman in the picture with whom she feels an affinity – and Stella’s story then unfolds in parallel to her own, both sad and disturbing, going backwards through her life to the point where she was happy and looking forward to her new life. Stella's story is very, very hard to read and my heart literally broke for her, but it was nonetheless my favourite part and it gave the book an incredible depth, even though a very sad one.

The whole cast of island characters are exceptional, too, and how each one fits into the scheme of things. As someone who struggles with C-PTSD daily, I really enjoyed this deep dive into the psyches of people who’ve gone through trauma. Rather reluctantly and out of necessity she begins to get to know her quiet next door neighbour, ‘part time grump’ Euan, and they discover they have more in common than they would have thought.Shower room: corner shower unit with rain and power shower head, wash hand basin, WC, washing machine. Located in a coastal village in North Devon, island life is about scraping together a living by fishing and relying on seasonal tourists.

And then Tamzin has an unexpected visitor – a woman from her past who knows only too well the reasons for Tamzin’s disappearance, and who is uncomfortably in the midst of making the same mistakes. Having had a career in psychology, Rebecca Alexander decided to take time out to raise and home educate six children - and home educate herself with an MA in Creative Writing. The author is new to me and I'm impressed by how smooth the narrative is as it alternates between the past and the present. Her strength and resilience felt like a true representation of women who came of age during World War II. I've only read one of Jane's other books in the past, The Cottage Escape, and I'll be honest it wasn't my favourite read (although it certainly wasn't bad). A second storyline is presented, where a young woman, 50 years prior, is trying to escape an abuse relationship.

The Cottage of Secrets is a vivid collection of stories that will appeal to those who enjoy mysteries.Ellie Roberts has inherited an cottage on Morwen Island from Patience Ellis who she just remembers vaguely from her childhood but she has to live in the cottage for a year. Intrigued by photos she finds hidden in her house, she comes to suspect that she might have quite a bit in common with Stella too. The pages turned over increasingly quickly as my desperation to find out how the story concluded grew and grew. I liked that Katie was a strong and competent lady, despite being in what is clearly an abusive relationship.

We do our best to provide good quality books for you to read, but there is no escaping the fact that it has been owned and read by someone else previously. So, while I adore over-the-top erotic romances about women orgasming three times per minute, I’m not averse to a dose of reality every now and then. Giving them many problems to solve and placing them in some unbelievable situations where they cannot ask for anybody else’s help, so have to rely on each other. On heavy clay soils, plants with extensive, fine root systems will seek out the smallest amount of water caught between the soil particles. We never learn too much about Euan’s former marriage, but we know his wife enjoyed her petty torments and even hit him on the head with a heavy skillet, which led to his stroke. This dog friendly holiday home ticks all the boxes for style and location - get out and about and explore this beautiful area… walk (or drive) into Diss, around 2.
