Description

It’s a miracle that these sisters survived, and a miracle that Morris was able to meet them and tell their tale to the world. Against all the odds, the three sisters survived the most heinous, systematic genocide that the world has ever known. Añado, que la autora fue elegida por las hermanas y su familia para escribir esta historia, después de que algunos familiares leyeran el tatuador de Auschwitz, todo esta explicado en las notas finales de la autora.

The Slovakian Hlinka Guards had other ideas and soon the family found themselves torn apart by the Nazi collaborators. While this is third book in the Tattooist of Auschwitz trilogy, Three Sisters can be read as a standalone novel. The story is told from the perspective of the characters so I was able to get a viewpoint from the remaining two sisters, the driver of the car and what he was dealing with and also some other characters. For the most of it, I found I was slumped over my kindle, looking forward to reaching the conclusion. The premise sounded so promising and I love Scotland, so I was excited for the story to be set there. It was not my favorite of her books but I appreciated that Heather Morris was able to share the sister’s story with her readers. Though Magda is spared due to being away while the Nazis make their rounds, she is captured a few years later and also sent to Auschwitz.

I don’t know if what I’m conveying makes sense, but after having read both of Morris’s previous novels (both of which had moved me deeply), I unfortunately didn’t feel the same connection to this one, despite how much I wanted to. I will admit I’m looking to take a break from WWII fiction and only picked this up because it purports to be about what happens to the sisters after the war has ended when they arrive in Israel. Here, where Ema stood, on one side of the fence, was the stench of death, murder and misery, yet ‘on the other side there was life and freedom. Not a single character was likable, and I have a hard time with books where I can’t find any character to like.

I like books in this genre as my bookclub is currently on a literature-snob bent and sometimes you just want to read a book and try to enjoy it, right? They must find a way to endure the nightmare, the horrifying conditions, the sickness, watching others being forced to walk to their death. Martin's Press and NetGalley who provided me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. Includes rape for no reason, and the plot twist at the end would’ve been great had I not guessed it very early on. As with this author's previous books, nothing is straightforward forward and to try to explain the story.

Heather Morris tells the three sister's stories of hardship, love, courage, determination, and strength. We get to see what is happening from the view points of the sisters Sam and Alex as well as business partners Lewis and Damian, Sam's husband Colin, Damian's lover Tina and Lewis and Damian's lawyer Oliver. Speechify lets you listen to any text, including all books in the world with the best voices out there! I remember the sleepovers in my grandparents’ room, and sitting outside in the sunshine eating ice cream, after having walked by the water in the summer sun. Cibi, only 19 herself, remembers their promise and follows Livia, determined to protect her sister, or die with her.

Three Sisters tells the tale of each sister – their journey from home to camp; the hardships endured; their hopes and aspirations for the future.

That reader’s defence was that the author is a social worker, not a creative writing major, and that the book is based on real life and that I should read it as it is. As children, the sisters made a promise to their sick father and to each other before he died to always be there for one another, no matter what! In addition, some of the scenes with Damian and the business take-over were prolonged and whilst it showed a different side to the struggling Lewis, I switched off a fair amount because it was detracting from the three sisters… kind of what I was expecting this book to just be about.
