Description

Using dual-concentric knobs, similar to those featured on many of their stompboxes, Boss have drastically expanded the Katana’s effects capabilities. Rather than having 3 effects types at your disposal, you’ve now got 5. This means you can use 5 effects at once, right out the box. Mic’d cabinet emulation on the USB and phones/recording outputs, with customizable tone via three Air Feel settings The speaker sounds good in all settings. It is loud enough if you use it in 50W mode (for bedroom usage, 0.5W is also great!). Controls - Amp Type x 5 + Variation, Gain, Volume, Bass, Middle, Treble, Booster / Mod, FX / Delay, Reverb, Tone Setting : CH1 / CH2 / Panel, Master, Power Control, Power Switch.

Tube Logic design approach produces class-defying power, authoritative punch, and cutting presence. Optional GA-FC and GA-FC EX foot controllers provide complete amp control, including expanded Tone Setting selection, effects on/off, expression pedal control, and more

The Katana MkII makes it easier than ever to record your amp. You’ve got line level, USB, and phones/recording outputs giving you plenty of choice. The recording output comes with mic’d cab emulation for proper amp-like resonance – mix-ready tones out the box. I am still of a mind that Boss’s Katana Range of Amps are the best option for home-play / practice amp - and deliver a combination of features and performance that no other brand has really caught up with yet. Some have come close - while for me the overall coverage and character of these amps sill reigns supreme. And in terms of a value-proposition is still way out in front of the chasing mob.

At the far right, we find master volume and a rotary switch for selecting either 50-, 25- or 0.5-watts of output power, and three more buttons that flip between manual and preset modes. By holding down the ‘panel’ button you can access alternative presets, so four different sounds can be stored and recalled here. More control is available; but again, we need to look beyond the amp itself for that. Finally, the Katana outputs audio over USB, so it makes for a great amp for home recording, and sounds better than many of the most popular amp sims on the market.

This new edition of Katana 50W Combo Amp simply brings in some of the features previously only available on the larger Katana 100 Edition. You’re essentially getting a more powerful feature rich version of the Katana 50 Combo. The Katana has a unique streamlined design. The looks of the amp are very minimal, which means you could easily walk past this in a music store – but it’s so popular that the chances of that happening are slim. Five unique amp characters: Clean, Crunch, Lead, Brown (derived from the Waza amp), and Acoustic (for acoustic-electric guitars) The EQ is a little more important here, as it’s easy to get it to sound fizzy with too much of anything. The power output of the Katana 50 can be changed to four different settings; standby, 0.5 of a watt, 25w or 50w. Having different power outputs means you can still experience the tone, and more importantly, the “feel” of a dimed amp at a reasonable volume.
