Description

Whole cereal grain-free, low in sugar, starch, and calories, this balancer is suitable for good-doers. It is dense in vitamins, minerals, and quality protein sources, as well as omega-3 fatty acids, live yeast and micronutrients that are essential to support optimum hoof growth. It can be fed alone to balance forage only rations, fed alongside other compound feeds to top-up the nutrient specification or to balance rations that are fed below the recommended intake. In addition to the above guidelines regarding turnout, access to grass may need restricting by use of strip grazing, muzzling etc.

This balancer provides digestive and immunity support in addition to everyday vitamins and minerals. It is rich in amino acids to support muscle development and topline, high in antioxidants and contains pre- and probiotics.

Like many companion ponies, Sugar Plum, is politely referred to as a “good-doer” by his owner and is on a carefully managed diet as a result. Lo-Cal Balancer is a key part of that diet and provides all the essential nutrients he needs, alongside his forage and grazing, to support healthy hooves, coat and well-being. A horse feed balancer designed for laminitis provides a carefully formulated blend of essential nutrients, while controlling starch and sugar intake. This balancer supports digestion, comfort and movement in older horses. It is high in antioxidants to support immune health and has probiotics and prebiotics to support digestive health. It also contains high levels of glucosamine, MSM and omega-3 to support joint health. For harder working horses, whose workload drops off, you would have a similar choice; feed slightly less, on a temporary basis and consider switching if your horse has a longer holiday. With low starch and sugar levels, Lo-Cal Balancer is suitable for equines prone to laminitis. The protected probiotic yeast and Digest Plus prebiotic support fibre-digesting bacteria, general gut health, and digestive efficiency, which is especially important following a laminitic episode.

Baileys Lo-Cal balancer is a nutrient dense pellet containing all a horse or pony needs for health and well being but with a minimal carbohydrate (calorie) content. Its quality protein provides the essential amino acids required to build and repair muscle and other tissues whilst Yea Sacc1026 stimulates fibre digesting bacteria, helping to improve gut efficiency. The superior vitamin and mineral content promotes good health and supports performance and includes chelated (Bioplex) minerals which are more easily absorbed and utilised by the horse’s body. As well as being the first balancer to be accredited by BETA as suitable for horses prone to gastric ulcers, Performance Balancer has been improved to: Regularly Analyze Forage: Have your forage analyzed to ensure it meets the low sugar and starch requirements for a horse with laminitis. Designed for elderly horses that are prone to weight gain, this balancer combines the benefits of a low-calorie feed balancer and a joint supplement in a cost-effective way. It’s formulated without cereal grains and provides only low levels of sugar and starch, which helps to maintain healthy hindgut function and avoid loose droppings. SoundHoof™, a complete hoof supplement, is added to the formulation, containing biotin, methionine, lysine, organic zinc, organic copper, and MSM for the formation of strong, pliable, and good-quality hooves. Furthermore, PrimoVento™, a complete respiratory supplement with antioxidants and garlic, soothes the airways and maintains lung health and integrity.Refrain from giving sugary treats or fruits, as they can increase the overall sugar intake and worsen the condition. In addition, Lo-Cal Balancer has lowstarch and sugar levels, meaning it is suitable for equines prone to laminitis, while protected probiotic yeast and Digest Plus prebiotic support fibre-digesting bacteria, general gut health and digestive efficiency. This is of particular importance in the aftermath of a laminitic episode as a disruption in the gut microbial population will have occurred. We’d recommend Stud Balancer, from conception onwards, to those pregnant mares who are also good-doers. Like Lo-Cal and Performance Balancer, it is low in calories, starch and sugar but it supplies specially tailored elevated levels of nutrients to support the developing foetus. This concentrated formula is described as suitable for all – from the family pony to performance horse. It contains key ingredients to optimise gut function, combined with optimum nutritional supplement specification that balances a high-fibre, low-concentrate, or performance diet. I fed with chaff in winter and speedi-beet (95% sugar free therefore also lami safe and non heating - good for fibre/bulk) and literally a handful of chaff in summer as a token gesture. Although the chaff wasn't really needed as it is highly palatable - i think it's a human thing to want to make it look more appealing!!

There is now so much choice that, like with mixes and cubes, it’s almost makes life more complicated instead of less. If your main aim is to provide essential nutrition without additional calories or starch, to be honest, any balancer will do! Remember not to get hung-up on starch levels; the amount of balancer you feed (typically 100g per 100kg bodyweight) is so low that, whatever the percentage starch content, the actual amount of starch your horse receives from his daily balancer is negligible. Blue Chip Lami-Light Feed Balancer is an excellent choice for those seeking a comprehensive, palatable solution for horses prone to laminitis or those requiring weight management. Its impressive combination of essential nutrients, vitamins, and minerals, along with its focus on digestive health, hoof quality, and overall well-being, makes it a standout option for maintaining the health of your beloved horse or pony. 2. Baileys No 14 Lo-Cal Horse Balancer Review This low-calorie, laminitis-friendly feed option is designed to support the overall health and well-being of your horse or pony. Its carefully chosen ingredients, low molasses content, and added vitamins and minerals make it an excellent choice for maintaining a balanced diet without increasing the risk of laminitis. The inclusion of Omega 3 and zinc ensures healthy, scurf-free skin and a glossy coat, while antioxidants like selenium, vitamin C, and vitamin E promote a healthy immune system. Blue Chip Lami-Light is a low starch, molasses-free, and no added sugar balancer that supports digestive health, fat metabolism, and hoof quality. The quadruple-action digestive supplement, which combines a probiotic with prebiotic MOS, nucleotides, and sepiolite clay, creates the ideal conditions for a healthy digestive system, crucial for horses prone to laminitis. The inclusion of short-chopped alfalfa and straw in the mix helps to extend eating time, promoting a more natural feeding pattern. This balancer also contains 15mg of biotin per 3kg serving, which has been proven to support hoof health. If you cancel, you must return the goods to us at your own expense. Managing laminitis in horses requires careful attention to nutrition, in addition to veterinary care and lifestyle changes. Utilizing a laminitis-specific horse feed balancer can play a significant role in improving a horse’s health and well-being, making it an essential component of any laminitis management plan. Home / Health / Horse Feed & Supplements / Balancers For Horses With Laminitis If your horse is working hard and/or competing then his requirements for quality protein and some other nutrients will be correspondingly higher than for a horse who is resting or in light work. You should therefore look for a balancer which is formulated to meet the needs of a performance horse and which is likely to contain higher levels of protein, for example, for muscle development and tissue repair. Digestible Energy is the estimated energy (calorie) content of the feed and is quoted on an “as fed” basis in Mega Joules per kilogram (MJ/kg).This product is formulated to balance the diet of performance horses, those in work on fibre-only rations or those being fed less than recommended of a fortified feed. It’s a molasses-free blend that includes alfalfa and linseed with glucosamine for joint support, prebiotics to support digestive health, B vitamins for efficient energy metabolism and hoof condition, chelated minerals for efficient absorption and herbs for palatability. This broad-spectrum vitamin and mineral supplement will ensure the correct micro-nutrient, vitamin and mineral levels are provided for optimum development of the foal and nutritional support for the mare prior to foaling.
