Description

Numbering of the ATX revisions may be a little confusing: ATX refers to the design, and goes up to version 2.2 in 2004 (with the 24 pins of ATX12V 2.0), while ATX12V describes only the PSU. The SAMA IM01 or SilverStone PS15 PRO are the cases we’d recommend to anyone who wants something straightforward to build in. The PS15 PRO, in particular, should be familiar if you’ve built in an ATX tower before. But every case on our list has something unique to offer and is well worth investigating if you’re just browsing.

Later AT (so-called "Baby AT") and LPX style computer cases have a power button that is directly connected to the system computer power supply (PSU). The general configuration is a double-pole latching mains voltage switch with the four pins connected to wires from a four-core cable. The wires are either soldered to the power button (making it difficult to replace the power supply if it failed) or blade receptacles were used. Let’s get it out of the way: the InWin CJ712 isn’t the best Micro-ATX case if you want to build a high-performance gaming PC. But if you’re building a low-power mATX computer, it might be the perfect case for you. The CJ712’s biggest selling point is its diminutive size. At just under 8 liters in volume, it’s smaller than even most mainstream Mini-ITX cases, let alone other Micro-ATX cases. Of course, this does come at the cost of CPU cooler compatibility and overall cooling performance, but that won’t be an issue if you select suitable components. sense should be connected to the +3.3V on the motherboard or its power connector. This connection allows remote sensing of the voltage drop in the power-supply wiring. Some manufacturers also provided a +5V sense wire (typically colored pink) connected to one of the red +5V wires on some models of power supply; however, the inclusion of such wire was a non-standard practice and was never part of any official ATX standard.

Modular PSUs

pin Berg floppy connector – transferred directly from AT standard: +5V and +12V for 3.5inch floppy drives and other peripherals. [23] Modular PSU can come in a variety of wattages, from as little as 450W to more than 1600W. Do modular PSUs come with cables?

The Overclockers Difference

Some proprietary brand-name systems require a matching proprietary power supply, but some of them may also support standard and interchangeable power supplies. ASUS is known for many things, but in general, the company hasn’t been known for making PC cases, or at least they weren’t. The ASUS Prime AP201 is great proof that the company should keep it up, though, as it offers a great combination of style, a spacious interior, and solid cooling.

AOpen has conflated the term Mini ATX with a more recent [ when?] 15×15cm (5.9×5.9in) design. Since references to Mini ATX have been removed from ATX specifications since the adoption of microATX, the AOpen definition is the more contemporary term and the one listed above is apparently only of historical significance. This sounds contradictory to the now common Mini-ITX standard (17×17cm (6.7×6.7in)), which is a potential source of confusion. A number of manufacturers have added one to three additional expansion slots (at the standard 0.8 inch spacing) to the standard 12-inch ATX motherboard width. sits flush with a hole in the AT chassis. It utilizes a paddle-style DPST switch and is similar to the PC and PC-XT style power supplies. pin " Molex connector" – transferred directly from AT standard: +5V and +12V for P-ATA hard disks, CD-ROMs, 5.25inch floppy drives and other peripherals. [22] If you’re really trying to maximise the visual appeal of your build, a modular power supply is almost essential – you can avoid all of those messy looking wires cluttering up your case. The NZXT E650 takes things a step further. Not only is it a fully modular power supply, meaning you only need to connect the wires you actually need, but it’s also extremely attractive itself, begging to be shown off in your case. This is all topped off with an 80 Plus Gold efficiency rating and a 10-year warranty – not only will it look good, but it’ll deliver power efficiently and last forever while it does it. How do I choose a PC power supply?

FAQ

Modern Form Factors: EPS, TFX, CFX, LFX, And Flex ATX - Power Supply 101: A Reference Of Specifications Older systems (before Pentium4 and AthlonXP platforms) were designed to draw most power from 5V and 3.3V rails. The ATX12V 2.4 specifications were published in August 2021. It is specified in Revision 1.31 of the 'Design Guide for Desktop Platform Form Factors', which names this as ATX12V version 2.4. [29] ATX12V v2.51 [ edit ] Systems that use an ISA bus should have a PSU that provides the −5V rail, which became optional in ATX12V 1.2 and was subsequently phased out by manufacturers. For instance, ATX 2.03 is quite commonly seen on PSUs from 2000 and 2001 and often includes the P4 12V connector, even if the norm itself did not define it yet. [3] ATX12V 1.0 [ edit ] Original AT cases (flat case style) have an integrated power switch that protruded from the power supply andOne minor note is that footprint refers to how much space a device consumes on your desk or floor, so that a 16-by-16-by-6-inch desktop has a larger footprint (256 square inches) than a 9-by-21-by 24-inch-tall full tower (189 square inches). Height is used for volume, but not footprint. What About Small Form Factor? Increased minimal efficiency for full load from 68% to 70% and defined minimal required PSU efficiencies for light (50% minimal efficiency) and typical (60% minimal efficiency) loads. PC Power Supply Requirements and Troubleshooting Problems". RepRap project. September 19, 2018. Archived from the original on September 19, 2018. ATX is the most common motherboard design. [2] Other standards for smaller boards (including microATX, FlexATX, nano-ITX, and mini-ITX) usually keep the basic rear layout but reduce the size of the board and the number of expansion slots. Dimensions of a full-size ATX board are 12×9.6in (305×244mm), which allows many ATX chassis to accept microATX boards. The ATX specifications were released by Intel in 1995 and have been revised numerous times since. The most recent ATX motherboard specification is version 2.2. [3] The most recent ATX12V power supply unit specification is ATX 3.0 released in February 2022.
