As a result, there are absolutely pros and cons with each style of seat. There are risks with all front mounted child bike seats, and the best seat for your family really depends on your child’s age and temperament, your riding ability, and where and how you will be using the seat.

The most important thing is that the bike seat is attached securely with no sign of budging. Common sense also comes into play here and, as parents, we’ll need to make judgement calls about what’s safe for our children. For example, how comfortable is your little one wearing a helmet? (No helmet, no bike ride.) So ensure your child is snug in their harness and that the bike seat itself is installed correctly and not wobbly. What safety standards should I be aware of?A favorable difference Lauren recognized almost immediately was the fact that she did not have to bow her legs out as much as she pedaled. This was especially useful during the uphill portions of her ride. With the Shotgun Pro seat sitting higher than other mountain bike kids seats, it gives parents more room to pedal. While this is not a huge performance issue and has never limited Lauren in her riding with other seats, she sure enjoyed the extra space for her legs. I can’t remember having strangers smile at me when towing children in a trailer. Very infrequently it may have happened with the rear seat. The seat is made from smooth, soft rubber, and has soft shoulder padding too. It’s very ergonomic and fits our two-year-old toddler comfortably. It also has a minimalistic, modern design, with an integrated drainage system for rainwater, and comes in nine beautiful colours (the Chigusa green special edition is particularly lovely). We love that the entire seat detaches from the base which is fitted to the bicycle: a convenient feature for when you want to store it away. The Do Little also has a higher weight capacity than the Shotgun, so while you likely aren’t going to take your 5 or 6-year-old mountain biking on a front-mounted seat, you could certainly ride them to school on the Do Little.

There is inherent risk any time you get on a bicycle, and adding a child to the mix increases that level of risk. Child bike seats come with their share of potential dangers. The angle of the legs to accommodate the angle of your down tube, and also provide enough clearance between your child’s feet and the front tire. Traditional front-mounted child bike seats are best for babies and young toddlers. With smaller seats and harnesses than rear seats, they’re designed to keep the littlest of passengers comfy and secure. Children typically fit in these seats from ages 12 months to 2.5 or 3 years. It’s important to know that the saddle of the Kids Ride Shotgun Pro can be adjusted along the rail to move your child closer or farther away from you. Because the seat rail is at an angle, moving the seat closer to the adult’s handlebars raises the saddle higher, while moving the seat closer to the adult lowers the saddle.

I can now talk with her much more easily. I can hear her singing (sometimes without end) more easily. I can judge her mood and whether or not she’s willing and able to continue or needs to find a park to have a swing at more easily. Comfort of the Shotgun front bike seat One small item we would like to see included is a small piece of rubber to go between the underside of the downtube and the skewer that the foot pegs attach to. The size of the frame of one of our bikes has that piece just touching the frame. (But this isn’t the case for all bikes.) While the Do Little is just as capable on mountain trails as the Shotgun, it also comes with an adapter to make it comfortably fit non-mountain bike style frames such as step-through women’s frames and cruisers. As a result, if you’re looking for a front-mount child bike seat that you can use on all the ponies in your stable, the Do Little is the seat for you. The comfortable seat and adjustable foot straps can accommodate kids upto a maximum weight of 15 kg A low profile adaptor remains on your steerer tube so be sure you have enough steerer tube space before purchasing
