After her breakthrough Born To Die, Lana Del Rey honed her hazy noir sound and added depth and personality to her wayward character. But it isn't exactly an unalloyed pleasure, and I have some sympathy for those who preferred Born To Die (although the Paradise recordings were really the peak of her work to date). My copy had lots of surface noise like other people mentioned, and the quality of the packaging isn’t all that great either. As first I was a little bit disappointed since this is not a gatefold, but I’ve grown to appreciate it more this way: I’d rather have a standard vinyl than a pointless and underwhelming gatefold like Norman Fucking Rockwell!But the very fact that she was materially blessed but is clearly maladjusted is what makes her such a vital and original artist.
