The group extensively toured Europe, and in early 2014 they embarked on their first tour of the US. [15] Beings (2015) [ edit ] Vatican This is about someone always being there for me, even at my most unlovable. String Theory This is a song about reflecting on what might have been and might, in some way, still be. It finds beauty and solace in the multiverse theory and the idea that out there somewhere, vibrating on their own frequency, exists another fully realised version of yourself where your story turned out differently.

Summertime romance, making love, and glistening in the sunlight”: The Sweet, Love-Soaked Seduction of Milan Ring’s Juicy “Mangos” November 28, 2023 Put another way, you don’t scrap an entire budget’s worth of recorded material and start over unless you really believe in your material’s potential. On 13 November 2015 the group released their third album Beings worldwide. [16] Beingswas met with critical acclaim [17] with Drowned in Sound declaring Lanterns on the Lake as "One of Britain's most crucial bands of the present moment." [18] and DIY Magazine describing the group as "virtually without equal". [19] Live with Royal Northern Sinfonia (2016) [ edit ] Opener and lead single “The Likes of Us” documents the state of things (“Oblivion howls for these gutted streets / Boarded shops cower in defeat”) but sublimates observations into a mantra of resolve (“I won’t let this spark die in me”). It heraldsVersions of Usas the band’s most cohesive and concise record yet, with its pervading sense of empowerment encapsulated in Wilde’s startling vocal performances. Her voice soars with previously unheard force on an album austere in its beauty, with its shifting sands of searing guitar, fluttering vintage synths and swarming melodic lines, topped with glistening strings from Angela Chan. Given some of its themes, a biting irony is found in an entire previous version of the record being discarded. Mental health struggles and personal problems in the band had a big impact on how the initial version took shape. “Despite trying everything we could to make it work we reached the point where we just had to stop” Wilde explains. Drummer Ol Ketteringham parted ways with the band, something Wilde says was “heartbreakingly difficult as we were and still are extremely close”. The band scrapped nearly a year’s worth of work, regressing to song demos with just Wilde performing with a single instrument as they began again with Radiohead’s Philip Selway joining the album sessions on drums and percussion. Philip brought an energy to the songs that reignited our belief in them,” Wilde said. “Within a few weeks we had a whole other version of the album and things felt very different. We had changed the destiny of the record.”

As Wilde sings in the last line that very first song: “ I won’t let this spark die in me.” Versions of Us – Lanterns on the Lake In all of those infinite versions of us Contributed to Mojo magazine's Harrison Covered: A Tribute To George Harrison with a cover of The Beatles' " Long, Long, Long". Last Transmission This song is about the absurdity of the world as it is and how we’re living. It’s also about the good that can be found in amongst all of that. I wanted the lyrics to feel as though you were listening in on a transmission from Earth that has been sent out into space, giving a glimpse of this strange civilisation that we’re all used to. It’s saying: ‘things are feeling pretty bleak and strange right now; we celebrate and glorify all the wrong things and miss the point about a lot of it. There’s so much that’s wrong with how we’re doing this but I think there’s still beauty and good to be found here’. The very end of this reprises the melodies and then guitar noise of the very beginning of the album. We wanted people to be able to loop the album or at least remind them of where they stepped in.

Lanterns On The Lake have announced news of an extensive UK tour in late 2023 to support the release. The band will also be performing at the Bearded Theory festival in Derbyshire in late May: But despite this turmoil the remaining band members all agreed to carry on. First, they enlisted the help of Radiohead’s drummer Philip Selway. And having then approached the album’s original songs from an entirely different perspective were able to record them again in the space of just a few weeks. The definitive iteration of Versions of Uswas finally released at the beginning of June. Lanterns on the Lake – Live with Royal Northern Sinfonia". Discogs.com. 24 November 2017 . Retrieved 12 April 2020. Who are we, and what is our potential? Are we living up to the best possible version of ourselves, and are we making the right moves in this “game called” life? Breathtakingly beautiful, unapologetic, and uncompromising, Versions of Us inspires and confronts, enchants and demands. It’s a masterful work of art, and a resounding reminder that our humanity may be one of our biggest flaws, but it’s also our greatest strength.
