Description

Let’s start with the issue that caused the most grief with previous Hisense sets: motion. Initially the U7Q’s motion remained awkward and in Dolby Vision films there was smearing at the slightest of movements. Max light output HDR (high dynamic range) while displaying small white square taking up 60% of the screen (measured in Nits)

There have been many complaints about modern TVs that utilize Android TV in regards to responsiveness. For the U8G, there wasn’t much sluggishness or non-responsive moments during testing. Apps including Netflix, Prime Video, Hulu, Disney+ and more booted adequately without any issue. Despite that, the opening ten minutes of 1917 (Dolby Vision) shows solid motion stability as Schofield and Blake make their way through the trenches. The only noticeable effect is some blurry edge definition as a group of soldiers walk by. The same can be said for the shaky-camera races in Days of Thunder (Dolby Vision). The U7Q is more confident in this aspect than it was pre-update. The 65U8HQ’s connectivity is strong. In particular, two of its four HDMI ports are capable of handling the 4K at 120Hz video signals now supplied by the latest games consoles and premium PC gaming cards. This same HDMI duo can handle VRR gaming too, and support the ALLM switching system whereby the TV can automatically detect whether a console or PC is outputting a video or gaming source and switch in and out of its Gaming mode accordingly. The performance is decent and best suited for broadcast as it serves up clear dialogue quality. It’s also offers decent panning across the soundstage, as well as offering some specificity in terms of where sounds emanate from. The party scenes in The Great Gatsby also look impressive on the U8G. White shirts and lights stand out, while the cuts of dark suits the and textures of dark hair are still visible without appearing washed out. Throughout the many high-contrast scenes in the film, skin tones look natural and nicely saturated. Hisense U8G Gaming Performance We may need to comply with the lawful interception and/or data retention requirements of local law enforcement agencies from time to time. We may restrict access to any part of the Smart Services and the Device or terminate your access to the Smart Services, at any time in our sole discretion if required by law or by the relevant authorities or regulatory agencies to do so. The delivery in Standard mode is deliberately flat and balanced, and while that works for everyday TV viewing, films demand more dynamism. The Theatre setting offers a bigger sound, but it isn’t one that escapes the confines of the TV. The setting also gives dialogue a slight boxed-in feel.

The good news is that with bright content the 65U8HQ is pretty much a different TV. Here, for instance, you get to really enjoy the set’s formidable brightness, which is up there with the best LCD TVs we’ve seen from the likes of Sony and Samsung. All this brightness helps its pictures hold up nicely against the sort of fairly bright room conditions most of us most often watch TV in. The Hisense U7QF wasn’t built with the PS5 or Xbox Series X in mind, so you won’t find High Frame Rate (4K/120Hz), Variable Refresh Rate or Auto Low Latency Mode. Game Mode needs to be turned on manually and when it is, input lag delivers a speedy 10.5ms. Hisense U7QF performance — Bright, colourful and detailed with the right settings Percentage luminance drop at 35 degree horizontal angle from the centre of the screen with 100% white outputA benchmark in picture quality, Ultra HD Premium brings each frame to life in stunning 4K beauty. See every detail with over 8 million pixels and exceptional clarity. The remote is a similar effort to previous and a slight improvement as it doesn’t attempt to cram as many buttons into a small space. Features Updates have made the U7QF better, but not completely absolved it of motion handling issues. It lags behind other manufacturers in this regard. Max light output HDR (high dynamic range) while displaying a live scene and white square taking up 60% of the screen (measured in Nits)

Sound, not so much. The surround sound depends on how you locate the TV I assume. Mine is in a corner and the sound of talking is suppressed somewhat so you need to increase the volume. A soundbar is so much better, unless you don't actually have one so cost restrictions, look in the settings and take a little time to perfect your choices. Built into the U8G is a special anti-glare film as well. As mentioned previously, the U8G is probably the most well-rounded television from Hisense feature-wise, but the excellent picture quality is the main draw.

Best In Class

The Hisense’s Ultra Smooth Motion feature is improved, mirroring the gains found in the step-down 65U7QFTUK. It won’t bother class-leaders Sony and Panasonic, but it is done with greater confidence. Streaming Everton vs Manchester City on Prime Video, while an element of judder remains, it’s watchable. There’s little difference between the Smooth, Standard and Clear options, and I’m not sure what the Film option achieves since all it does is add stutter. As I am removing the plastic you realise that the screen has almost no bezel and the screen seems to float over it. In all other cases the updated EULA applies to all access to and use of the Device and the Smart Services thereafter. As feared, Hisense’s decision to use an IPS type of panel inside the 65U8HQ prevents it from achieving the high-value hero status it might otherwise have attained. The new OLED and Mini LED sets take top billing for 2021, which has led to the QLED/ULED options shuffling down the line to make space, the A7G looking to offer HDR performance at an affordable price. However, an update appears to have ironed this out. It’s not perfect, but motion is smoother. Judder is still apparent, but less egregious. Smooth and Standard Ultra Smooth Motion settings serve up the subtlest performance, though the Film works well for movies.
