Creative night light, shell night light, conch night light, creative light gift, bedside decoration, light gift, gift for children Note that both the key light and the second ( fill) light should now both be in front of you, the photographer–and your aim is generally to shoot the model from head-on, with a lens that pokes out from between the two light sources. Of course, you can ask the model to turn their head and strike different poses, but be careful to maintain the same shadow presence that you see from very straight clamshell lighting.

However, while MAAs and the associated UV-protection would be provided by the algal symbionts, iridocyte cells are actually produced by the bivalve host itself. This interaction between host-owned cells and the embedded algae would emphasize how the mutualistic component of the symbiotic relationship of Tridacninae and Symbiodiniaceae extends to protection from UVR. Further, this interaction is absent from photosymbiotic relationship of Symbiodiniaceae and corals, where the latter have to rely on the production of MAAs and the consequent photo-protection through their algal symbionts ( Rosic and Dove, 2011). Moreover, this stresses again that, although the relationship of Symbiodiniaceae with corals and with giant clams, respectively, are comparable in many ways (e.g., the provision of shelter, carbon, nitrogen, and other inorganic nutrients by the host to their algal symbionts, and simultaneous supply of photosynthetic metabolites by the symbiotic dinoflagellates to the host), some components, specifically the interactions driven by the iridocytes, of these symbioses are functionally different. Materials and Methods

Butterfly lighting and clamshell lighting are often discussed together, but they’re two very distinct lighting patterns. Note that clamshell lighting doesn’t create much in the way of shadows, which means that it’s not an especially strong lighting pattern if you’re aiming to create drama. It’s a flattering type of light, but not a moody one. The most common clamshell lighting setup involves two lights, such as strobes or speedlights. You can get away with a light and a reflector, but this will limit your flexibility somewhat (and ideally you’ll have both a second light and a reflector on hand, so you can play around with different looks). At this point, you should have two lights sharing the same vertical space, and the light on top should be roughly two stops brighter than the light on the bottom. Weisenburger, S. & Vaziri, A. A guide to emerging technologies for large-scale and whole-brain optical imaging of neuronal activity. Annu. Rev. Neurosci. 41, 431–452 (2018). Once you’ve experimented with clamshell lighting, it’s easy to see why the lighting setup is common for beauty, portraits and model headshots.

The easiest way to add the reflector is to have the subject hold the reflector about waist level. The reflector should also be at a 45-degree angle, bouncing the light up like the bottom of that clamshell. That means the edge of the reflector farthest from the subject should point up slightly. But it’s still soft enough to avoid exaggerating skin imperfections. You can play with different combinations of lighting strength, though to do this with a reflector you’ll want to move it closer and farther away from the subject’s face. Adding a Third Light
