It must be nice for kids and fans that age to be able to have LEGO sets of the computer games that they play with on their devices. I do believe TLG got the bluejay correct as they usually have black around the beak and the blue is usually just on top of the head. If you stare at it close enough, it creates a sort of optical illusion that makes the wings look like they’re beating rapidly, which I think is quite a genius design. Birds is a wonderful breath of fresh air to LEGO Ideas and I believe is a shot in the arm to the Ideas ethos: providing a platform for creative fan-made models to become retail LEGO sets. The wings have a slight detached angle to them accomplished by ball joints, which allow them to be swivelled around slightly.

Being an Ideas set, the instruction booklets are of the premium variety, made of thicker and glossier paper and have a lot more than just building instructions.I also really liked the clever use of cheese slopes and tiles to create the Robin’s textured appearance, especially around its head. Created by keen gardener and bird enthusiast Thomas Poulsom and selected by LEGO Ideas members, each replica bird hails from a different continent: the Robin from Europe; the Blue Jay from North America; and the Hummingbird from South America. The popularity of his Ideas submission soared, garnering 10,000 votes and beating out several other submissions to become 2015’s first Ideas set. It has its flaws like any other set: the grey Technic axle used between the Robin and tree branch, black pieces used instead of ‘Earth Blue' for the Blue Jay and the loose ‘Earth Green' pieces of the Hummingbird.

Now you can build your own tribute to this exceptional flower with this LEGO® rendition of the eye-catching house plant.I really enjoyed that you could build each bird separately, which allowed me and my wife to spend a relaxing evening putting this set together. If you’re story sucks, you may have we’ll have submitted a three-block Duplo entry indistinguishable from a 2 year old slap-together. Unlike a real flower, this plant doesn’t need watering – making it a top gift for anyone who's a bit forgetful when it comes to watering their little green friend.

Melding LEGO and Technic in the most ingenious ways, the build is especially challenging but rewarding, especially when you see the functions in action! It contains various small LEGO® parts to build, disassemble and remake various designs of small birds. The two sloped 'Earth Green' bricks that were used to hide most of the back of the plates is a great addition however it's only conned by one Technic pin which means doesn't stay still. These beautiful and detailed models come with their own presentation stands showing their scientific names, so that you can display your birds for allto enjoy or detach and play as you wish. You’d most likely say, ‘well, it was a way to give back to the community of builders and fans out there who can now, too be a part of the Lego brand. In this case the white and brown is showing though a small gap above the assembly of the red belly of the Robin. Shaft 12M (Transparent) Something I would like to point out that some ‘Medium Blue’ pieces seem to have two different shades in this set.

My wife occasionally enjoys building my LEGO sets with me, so it was really good to be able to split up the birds between us and build simultaneously. Each print is made using Lego letterpress, combining individual building blocks into stamps to recreate the birds’ shapes and patterns, a technique perfected over the past decade by his frequent collaborator, the artist Martijn van der Blom. Luckily, you’re only really going to be looking at the Robin from the front, so its lackluster behind isn’t really a detracting factor. These beautiful and detailed models come with their own presentation stands showing their scientific names, so that you can display your birds for all to enjoy or detach and play as you wish. The final bird is the Hummingbird (Colibri Thalassinus) which sits on a ‘Plate 6x16’ for the additional flower assembly.Playability: 3 - Each bird can be easily removed from their display stand and be swooshed around if you so desire. The Blue Jay (Cyanocitta Cristata) is once again rendered well but this build also has minor problems. Appeal to builders aged 9 and over with a fun gift to have in time for both spring and Easter – the LEGO® Bird’s Nest (40639) kit.
