Over the last 25 years, Winning Moves UK and Hasbro have produced official versions of Monopoly in cities all over the world from Dubai to Sydney. Weinreb, Ben; Hibbert, Christopher; Keay, John; Keay, Julia (2008). The London Encyclopaedia (2nded.). Pan Macmillan. ISBN 978-1-405-04924-5.

Bosses at Winning Moves UK say a variety of factors were used in deciding Hereford from across 25 cities and towns in the West Midlands and western Midlands. These factors include ‘pride’, ‘landmarks’, ‘beauty’ and ‘sense of family’.Hereford Town Hall could get to land on the famous Whitehall square from the game’s classic original. “There’s synergy there,” adds Ms Gibbs. For the same reason a very old building could get to land on Old Kent Road. “As regards the board’s most expensive exclusive square, Mayfair, that could go to Hereford’s most prized crown jewel,” adds Ms Gibbs. “We look forward to hearing from the public.” The public were asked to send in general nominations and suggestions for landmarks and organisations to feature in the game. In this unique edition of the world’s most famous board game ALL the famous multi-coloured MONOPOLY property squares like Mayfair and Park Lane from the classic MONOPOLY London original are represented by Hereford landmarks and organisations. The Community Chest and Chance cards and money are Hereford themed too. Hereford Sixth Form College students celebrate with Mr Monopoly, Executive Principal Peter Cooper and Vice Principal Phil Tranter.

Executive Principal, Peter Cooper expressed his excitement: “Monopoly is part of many of our childhoods and I am delighted that the Sixth Form College has a prominent position on the board along with other icons such as the Cathedral, the Green Dragon and Castle Green. Only a select group of places worldwide have featured in specialist editions and it is a great honour for Hereford and our community that we have been chosen. The day tasks of studying, teaching, enrichment and socialising must go on but I won’t be surprised to see a few impromptu games breaking out in the near future. Now where is that top hat?” Earlier this month it was announced that Hereford is getting its very own official version of the popular board game.

The final list mixes well-known landmarks with relatively obscure locations. There appears to be no specific motivation for how they were chosen; when the travel writer Tim Moore searched the Waddingtons' company archives he did not uncover any relevant documentation. [13] The Monopoly Game 2 · 1997 · Monopoly Star Wars · Monopoly (Nintendo 64) · 1999 · Monopoly Tycoon · Monopoly Here and Now · Monopoly Streets · 2010 Being a part of such an iconic and world famous board game is truly an honour and is sure to be a hit with Herefordians of all ages. This Monopoly game will showcase some of our own iconic landmarks, history and charities. I suspect that some of the chosen landmarks and the dreaded penalty squares you can land on will cause much debate!”

Since it was announced in February that Hereford would be getting its very own version of the classic game, speculation has been rife as to which names would replace Old Kent Road and Mayfair – the cheapest and most expensive squares.
