Description

API SALTWATER MASTER TEST KIT tests for high range pH, ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate, all of which need to be regularly monitored for proper water conditions for your fish. Overfeeding is a big cause of problems in aquarium fish. If you feed your fish too much, you risk causing health problems, such as bloat and constipation. Meanwhile, perform partial clean water changes of 30% on your main display tank. Monitor your other fish closely for any signs of infection or disease. Antibiotic Treatment Your aquarium must be clean and healthy for your fish. A dirty tank and unsuitable water conditions are probably the most common causes of stress and disease in aquarium fish.

Both of these kits may be used in marine aquariums; however, the API SALTWATER MASTER TEST KIT will allow you to test for ammonia, high range pH, nitrite, and nitrate in your tank, while API REEF MASTER TEST KIT tests for calcium, carbonate hardness, phosphate, and nitrate – all of which need to be maintained at appropriate levels for a thriving reef aquarium.API® PIMAFIX fish remedy is an all-natural, antifungal remedy for fish fungal infections, with a formula derived from the West Indian Bay Tree – a proven natural antifungal. API PIMAFIX fish remedy rapidly treats cottony growth, mouth, body fungus, and the reddening of the fins and body, in addition to both internal and external bacterial infections.API PIMAFIX fish remedy will not adversely affect the biological filter, alter pH, or discolor water, and has been formulated to use in conjunction with MELAFIX™ fish remedy to enhance effectiveness against fish diseases.

API AQUARIUM SALT is intended to keep your fish healthy, and while it does promote disease recovery, it is not a holistic solution to heal and treat fish diseases. API BETTAFIX™ fish remedy, PIMAFIX™ fish remedy, and FUNGUS CURE™ fish remedy are all options that API brand offers to combat fungal infections. These can all be used with the added support of API AQUARIUM SALT. Products that are designed to remove things from your aquarium, such as filter media, will also remove dosed fish remedy from your tank. For best results from fish remedy, remove your filtration media as you dose.Territorial fish can become very aggressive if kept in overcrowded conditions. That can lead to fighting, injury, and bacterial infections. Although dropsy is a very challenging condition to treat, dosing the tank with Epsom salts and treating the fish with a broad-spectrum antibiotic, such as Melafix, can be successful, provided that you catch the problem early. People claim to have had issues with other passive medication API products such as Melafix and Primafix on fish that contain a labyrinth organ to breathe with. The FRESHWATER MASTER TEST KIT measures pH, high range pH, ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate in your freshwater aquarium.

To see how you can calculate the dosages for both treatments, you can take a look at this article for Melafix as well as this post for Pimafix. Newly-introduced fish could be carrying diseases and might be stressed by the change of environment, so keep them under observation, too. OverfeedingAPI ACCU-CLEAR water clarifier clears green or cloudy water in freshwater aquariums by clumping small particles together into larger pieces, so they can settle to the bottom of your aquarium to be siphoned out, or easily removed by the filter. If you are using API POND STRESS COAT water conditioner as a dechlorinator to make tap water safe, you should dose enough for the amount of the new water you are adding to the aquarium. If you are using API POND STRESS COAT water conditioner to help fish recover from injury or disease, then you should dose enough for the amount of water in the whole pond. Is API STRESS COAT™ water conditioner suitable for both freshwater and marine (saltwater) aquariums?

Many disease symptoms will be clearly visible, such as white streaks, lesions, protruding eyes, and other unusual marks or spots on your fish. If you suspect your fish has a disease, it will fall under the categories of fungal, parasitic, or bacterial. One way to diagnose is by matching fish symptoms to the description of a wide range of API fish remedies, which include treatments specific to Ich disease, Betta fish, and various common symptoms (hole-in-the-head, eye cloud, fin & tail rot, etc.) The filter is not a fit-and-forget system! Every few weeks, you’ll need to rinse the filter media in tank water to remove any sludge that is clogging the system and stopping the water from circulating through the filter media. Again, if you have very dirty fish, you might need to do that every other week. Melafix can be used in saltwater aquariums and freshwater aquariums without issue as an all-natural antibacterial treatment. It will not hurt your aquarium plants, although it does have a somewhat medicated unpleasant odor. It will also cause a foam on top of the water if you have a bubbler/airstone as it creates a thin layer over the surface of the water which air gets trapped inside. For the treatment to have any chance of success, you need proper water conditions in the hospital tank. So, test the water every couple of days to ensure that toxin levels are within acceptable parameters, i.e., zero ammonia, and nitrites and nitrate levels below 20ppm. If necessary, carry out regular water changes.
