Like the later Tales of the Unexpected the 30 minute format works well as the tension in each story mounts and doesn’t out stay its welcome. The site carries no advertising, and I rely on donations to help with running costs and to keep the site running for your entertainment and education. The series' seven half-hour installments used the cream of Burke's crop, inducing goose-bumps by using mood, atmosphere, and insinuation rather than outright "scare" tactics. Tales of Unease: The Complete Series DVD / Normal

Superstitious Ignorance by Michael Cornish is a class based chiller about exploitation, poverty and privilege. With no phones, no elevator and the air conditioning drying out their mouths and dampening their spirits, it’s a beautiful exercise in blackmail. An unsettling tale of loss, alienation and the desire for friendship, ATV's BAFTA-nominated adaptation of Pamela Sykes' classic novel is as haunting now as it was when first shown in the spring of 1978. A young art student takes a beautiful girl home after a dance but discovers that she is no longer on the pillion of his motorcycle.Network in the UK continues to trawl through the ITV vaults and this little gem of a anthology series gets it's moment in the sun for new generations to savour. There's a sense of logic at play, but it's one I've been unable to unpick or attribute any sense to. Disc extras are limited to a single fine still gallery but another Andrew Pixley viewing notes booklet is also included, although not provided for review. Oh, and London Weekend Television existed at the time when all TV channels were regional and there were loads of them throughout the UK serving the different regions. It's perhaps interesting that, whilst I wouldn't describe any of these episodes as being particularly scary, it's the outcome of one of the "human" ones (Bad Bad Jo Jo) that has stayed with me the longest.

British series adapted from a trio of horror-story anthologies which were edited by John Burke and published between 1960 and 1969. Childrens’ telefantasy had a good year in 1970 as both Timeslip and Ace of Wands made their debuts, with all surviving episodes available to be purchased from Network, and now thankfully joining them is LWT’s Tales of Unease. What the series overall did lack though was some sort of underlying theme or uniting premise behind the decision to tell these particular stories. Following the sad and untimely passing of Matthew Perry, fans of the “Friends” star and actor can tune in to.Entertainment Magpie Limited t/a Music Magpie is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority FRN 775278.
