Description

The pInstruments PBONE2R Jiggs mini plastic trombone is available in Blue and Red, and is clearly intended for children.

Vincent Bach is a subsidiary of Conn-Selmer, which is a division of Steinway Musical Instruments. The conglomerate includes well-known brands like Steinway & Sons, King, Selmer, Wm. Lewis & Son, Ludwig and many others. Lightweight instruments are great for children and students for obvious reasons. They are good for beginners of any age as well, as you can easily get over one of the main hurdles of learning to play the instrument, which is its weight. My experience grew and eventually, Ron suggested I should have lessons with a professional trombonist as he was essentially a tuba player. I made the switch to Richard and he helped me to get to Grade 6. I did the Trinity College exam at this level as I did not want to worry about passing the Associated Board theory paper at Grade 5. I was in it for enjoyment after all!

After a few weeks of lessons and practice, I found that my embouchure was improving. That is, my lip muscles were adapting to the mouthpiece and I was playing recognisable notes rather than squeaks. The lightweight pInstruments pBone plastic trombone comes with a standard .500 bore, ergonomic grip, pBone’s unique water key design, glass-fibre lookalike slide, matching pBone 6.5AL and 11C small shank mouthpieces, fabric carry case, six-month free membership to the International Trombone Association and free online lessons. Plastic trombones can be a lot of fun, and honestly, I think that’s the main reason they even exist. If you’re still on the fence about which one to go for, we’d suggest looking at either the Vincent Bach for adults or the pBone Jiggs Mini Plastic Trombone for kids.

Vincent Bach is probably the most known and highly regarded brand on the above list. They offer a wide range of brass instruments and mouthpieces. The piccolo trombone is the runt of the litter, and rarely seen due to its limitations. The sound is shrill and high, and the slide is very small, which means it can be very difficult to play. Sopranino Trombone But if you’re looking for a mini plastic trombone, you’d be hard pressed to find many other options. It takes dedication and hard work to be able to play any instrument well, but plastic instruments do make it a little easier for you to get started and gain the experience necessary to become a good trombone player. The major difference is the inclusion of two rotary valves which allow the instrument to play lower than the tenor could. It also has a bigger bell, mouthpiece, and bore size for a much deeper tone. Contrabass TromboneAlthough you can get some very good quality plastic trombones that produce a nice crisp sound, the majority of models don’t compare to brass trombones when it comes to tone. There can still be issues with durable material and certain components might be more vulnerable than others. I eventually joined a local community junior wind band. Not junior by age but by experience. There were many adults in it either learning for the first time like me or trying out second or third instruments. I sat next to Emily, aged ten, who was way ahead of me, and who I relied upon to put me right. (She now plays professionally in a military band). With brass, it’s a different story altogether, as even the smallest ding to it will make your tone awful and ruin its sound. Brass is also a lot easier to scratch. They’re Easier to Maintain

You can spend several hundred dollars on a plastic trombone. This might seem steep, but it’s nothing compared to spending a couple of thousand for a professional trombone.Go and try a few plastic trombones at the music store. Better yet, see if you can rent them for a week to get a sense of how they feel and sound. You should be able to get a better idea around what you like and what works for you. The first lesson went well. It was very relaxed and we decided that I would learn to play purely for enjoyment with no target of doing exams (more of that later). I remember an early discussion about whether should I play in the bass clef or the treble clef. If one is going to eventually play in a brass band the treble clef is more appropriate but Ron thought I should aspire to play in a wind band or orchestra and so it was agreed I would learn to play in the bass clef. If it’s for a child who’s just learning, then the tonal quality will be acceptable, but if you plan on playing professionally or in a brass band, then you might want to consider buying a traditional brass trombone instead.
