The FN is seen as Sharp’s 4K UHD TV for a more mainstream audience. It features support for Dolby Vision, a 60Hz refresh rate and runs on Android TV. The downfiring speakers are tuned by Harman Kardon and there is DTS:X support but no Dolby Atmos.Sharp says the FN series is available to buy now. Sharp FS series Sharp will launch its new Mini LED TVs at the end of Q1 2023. The TVs have yet to receive official names, but the biggest difference between the three is the number of dimming zones available – 300, 1000 or 2000. XLED 2000 Mini LED This sort of ‘near 3D’ effect is a classic result of a quality 4k image – yet in this instance, of course, the ‘quality 4k image’ is not a native 4k source, but rather the same mushy looking 1080i source feed showing on the 1920×1080 screen. The new range includes a number of Mini LED displays, along with a new platform for the Mini LED and the FS gaming TVs

The more we studied the image to try and suss out how this spectacular conversion might have happened, the more we realised that it wasn’t just a result of the processing adding extra pixels of picture information accurately. It was also doing some striking things with the image’s contrast compared with the 2K screen, subtly but brilliantly emphasising the difference between shadow and light on a remarkably local level, to deliver an effect that made pictures look both much sharper and much deeper – almost as if they were 3D, despite the picture source being resolutely 2D. Below the Mini LEDs are the FP and FN series. They share the same design and run on the current Sharp platform instead of the new one. The FP series is the more advanced of the two, as it features support for Dolby Atmos sound, Quantum Dot colours and MEMC motion. FP series The XLED 300 has Dolby Vision and Atmos, as well as DTS:X audio support. There’s also MEMC support for motion but this TV runs Android TV instead of newer Google TV. FP and FN seriesNext up is the XLED 1000 Mini LED, which includes 1000 dimming zones. It also features a 144Hz refresh rate, the new platform, Quantum Dot colour support and runs the Google TV interface. Like the XLED 2000, it also has an integrated sound system by Harman Kardon. XLED 300Mini LED

Naturally such heady marketing claims should be treated with a hearty degree of scepticism. But it took all of 10 seconds watching Sharp’s 60in 4K screen in action to realise that its 4K upscaling engine really is a cut above the norm.
