Now Irene insists her son must visit her for three months, to the dismay of Bertie, his father Stuart and his grandmother Nicola. There is astute social observances and deep philosophical musings on a range of topics from the mundane to the deep. They may not be as elegant as Italian footwear, but Italian shoes would never stand the rigours of Scottish conditions. Bertie for example has aged maybe one year in 14 books while others have married and now have toddlers.

Bertie doesn’t want to go but is told that he must because Irene is his mother, and she has a right to see him. Warm hearted, humorous and wonderfully wise, Love in the Time of Bertie offers philosophical insight as well as sartorial elegance. Once there, poor Bertie doesn’t understand the Highlands accent, nor does he want to start psychoanalysis again with his old psychologist. Written with wit and wisdom and containing a gentle, thought-provoking philosophy about life, the ability to change, love, friendship, community, art, admitting one's defects, and taking control.Warm hearted, humorous and wonderfully wise, Love in the Time of Bertie offers philosophical insight as well as sartorial elegance. When you are with somebody you love the smallest, smallest things can be so important, so amusing because love transforms the world, everything. Things work out nicely not at all like I'd expected it to and it'll be interesting to see how these new storylines play out in the next book. These include the 44 Scotland Street novels, first published as a serial novel in the Scotsman , the Isabel Dalhousie novels, the Von Igelfeld series and the Corduroy Mansions novels.

Bruce seems unconcerned about the immorality of the scheme until an electrifying experience changes his outlook on life. By great good fortune, Angus and his father had near-identical feet, and when Angus left school, his father passed his shoes on to him.things may get bad and then we say to ourselves remember your view and then everything looks better. This series won two major cross-media awards - Association of Online Publishers Digital Publishing Award 2009 for a Cross Media Project and the New Media Age award. Another wonderful, charming, thought provoking, entertaining story about my favorite characters living on Scotland Street in Edinburg, Scotland.

His regular shoes – described by Domenica as his daily boots – were a pair of brown brogues made by the Northampton shoe-maker, Joseph Cheaney. The English shoes of which he was proudest were a pair of black brogues, made of soft and supple leather, and bought by his father from the London firm of John Lobb. At a crucial stage in life – somewhere in one’s mid-thirties – the merits of well-made shoes dawn on one, and that was what happened to Angus. All the threads are tied up in a neat bow as the neighbors stage their own version of the highland games in Drummond Park. I'm happy with the threads that seem to be a little more tied off, but there are plenty of loose ends to keep going.Through conversations over tea and coffee we are fortunately privy to their gossip, analyses of others, doling out advice, doing crosswords and philosophizing. As always, I can't wait (but I guess I'll have to) for more musings and little exploits from the crew at 44 Scotland Street.
