Description

The process of ripening, harvesting, processing and roasting also plays a crucial role in the preparation of this bean variety. Whether you enjoy it as a morning pick-me-up or as a relaxing afternoon beverage, our coffee will transport you to the tranquil paradise of the Caribbean. Coffee farming in the Blue Mountains is characterised by mostly small holdings of up to 4 hectares but there are larger estates of up to 70 hectares in size.

Located north of Kingston on the eastern side of the island, the Blue Mountains rise to elevations of 2,350 metres. This time-consuming, laborious process has ensured superior quality as only the best beans go on to be roasted. A one-way valve allows the Co2 produced from roasting to 'gas off' slowly, enabling the coffee to be packaged shortly thereafter, capturing and preserving the coffees unique flavours for many weeks.

Growing Blue Mountain coffee is not easy: the exposure of the plantation must be the correct one, the same goes for the altitude.

York Emporium Roastery (Nether Poppleton): Available to collect from the Roastery any time between 8. Not only is Jamaican Blue Mountain considered by many to be the best coffee bean in the world, the No. It has a wonderful balance of flavour, with sweet notes of caramel, apricot and a delicious creaminess. Depending on your general palette it might not be the kind of thing you go for, I don’t drink coffee black so I can’t vouch for much there.Treat yourself to the ultimate coffee experience with our small family plantation's Jamaica Blue Mountain coffee - a taste of Jamaica, delivered to your doorstep. Jamaica Blue Mountain comes, as mentioned, from the Blue Mountain range, the only area certified for the production of this authentic Arabica variety. The beans I got were of a mixed roast, so there were some fairly lighter coloured beans and then there were some darker colour beans. Grown at altitudes of 900-2350 metres, Jamaican coffee plants (of mostly arabica typica variety), thrive in the mountainous conditions of the majestic Blue Mountains - some of the highest peaks in the Caribbean.
