I- um," he cleared his throat, how unlike him to stutter, "I do what anyone does. I eat, I watch TV-" Colby hummed into the phone. "Oh yeah! Duh doi, totally forgot. You know what it's like, in one ear out the other." Colby laughed and Steven felt under a polite obligation to laugh with him. "But yeah, I was calling to tell you where we are meeting tonight. It's this completely new place on fifth street, very chic from what I hear. It's also apparently got a big bird theme, Ezra mentioned that you're a big fan of birdwatching."

What? Why?" Don't tell him that Colby had figured out what was happening tonight. Technically, it wasn't that hard to figure out, but still. Ezra had hoped for a fun surprise for Colby. Alright, since we're all here." Trevor, Colby's dad, gestured to the four other people around the table. "Let's begin the planning. Who would like to speak first?"

He glanced at Colby from the corner of his eye. Colby was fiddling with his tie. Adjusting and readjusting it. He looked very smart in his suit and tie. Ezra was glad that Colby hadn't asked too many questions about why they were suddenly having a very formal dinner with his parents. Are you alright?" Steven interrupted. Why didn't he tell Steven about this? Why hadn't Steven reached out first to find out? So distracted with work and Stavros that he was letting his son slip away from him. Again! Ezra left his apartment that he shared with Colby. The restaurant he was meeting his dad in was within walking distance of the apartment. He walked down the street with a faux confidence in his best shoes. Polished so much it was blinding. Ezra had polished them over and over again until Colby had to ask him to stop. also chapter six when ezra tries to ask colby to be friends with benefits or sexual partners but colby keeps pointing out that they're not friends or playing tennis.

He'd done everything he was supposed to. He'd bought a ring, he'd subtly brought it up in conversation with Colby to gage his reaction, he'd booked a fancy restaurant. The stage was set. Why did he feel like he was missing something? Finley is like, the kind of bestfriend that teases you relentlessly but will bite anyone else's head off if they do. He's intense about the things and people he likes. His mom was all in. She loved the plan. It was more than she had done to get Colby's dad to marry her. But, Colby didn't have the option of having an accidental pregnancy because Ezra forgot to wrap it before he tapped it. He would if he could, but alas, they both had penises. He'd be fine. He'd be fine. He'd be fine. He'd be fine. He'd be fine. He'd be fine. He'd be fine. He'd be fine. He'd be fine. He'd be fine. He'd be fine. He'd be fine. He'd be fine. He'd be fine. He'd be fine. He'd be fine. He'd be fine. He'd be fine. He'd be fine. He'd be fin- Thirdly, this needs an editor. A team of editors, even. Also beta and sensitivity readers. Not gonna get too much into detail here cuz I don't care to pull quotes at this point, but the dialogue, interpersonal thoughts, and everything else didn't mesh very well. The tone/vibe/whatever you call it for a story was all over the place and I really struggled to see what the "point" was of the story, thematically speaking. It wanted to be deep and thoughtful at moments and then would do something to completely contradict it and it got jarring very fast. Characterizations were also all over the place and seemed inconsistent. Character arcs can't be propped up solely by plot twists and sudden expository dumps! Sophie is miss religious trauma who went to a gay conversion camp over the summer because her pastor father found out she was lesbian and now feels like she needs to evangelize to her gay friends and is a super big jerk. But like, sweetheart Colby doesn't give up on her and you see how scared she is and... This book isn't about her, but maybe it should be? Cause that's SUCH a story, and one that's I'd love to read! Yeah. My boss handles it like a champ though, you'd never know it got to him because he's always so cheery all the time. He likes to call himself my work dad and I guess in a way he is, except that he is basically just a big kid."

We haven't even decided if we're having kids yet!" Ezra regretted saying it as soon as it left his mouth. Colby's hand left his thigh.

The main thing that made the two of them closer than if they didn't share this trait, they were both gay. I love the characters in this story, there are so many, but they're all realistic, important, well-developed and well thought through. Although, I do find myself thinking that Finley, as much as I love him, has a new personality every time we meet him. Colby is so iconic, too, that I will forever associate that name with this book and this character. He's so endearingly dense. Okay so firstly, you should know this book has smut. A lot of it. Out of the scenes I actually cared to read rather than try to find the thin plot of this plot what plot book, there was maybe one smut scene that actually felt more appropriate for the YA characters being treated with new adult tropes. Hence my tagging it New Adult. His phone began to ring on a nearby table. The sudden noise caused him to jump, he hadn't realised how quiet the house was in that moment before then. The number was not registered on his phone.

He glanced at Ezra who pulled up outside the restaurant. The guy looked like he was about to shit himself. Maybe he was constipated.Ezra shook his head, trying his hardest to relax into Colby's touch. "No, I want to see him myself first and then depending on how he acts, I'll let him see you."
