Description

The art in this volume really emphasizes Nathaniel's place as an outwardly-unremarkable preteen, boring facial features and all. After recounting a modified version of events which belittles Bartimaeus' achievement, advocates the role of Mrs.

A couple of the mean dudes have simply vanished into hiding (you don't suppose they'll be back, do you? Unaware that Lovelace was planning on putting the amulet to use in a treasonous coup to overthrow the government, Nathaniel finds himself trapped in a maelstrom of evil, espionage, murder and magical Royal Rumbles and is now pursued as the object of a merciless manhunt. I was sucked into the brilliance of the story, the original way it was told, and the overall feel of the book. He was able to change up voices and input just the right amount of pomposity into Bartimeus' character to make him both believable and humorous. The book and series are about power struggles in a magical dystopia centred in London, England, and feature a mix of current and ancient, secular and mythological themes. We may feel sympathy for the hero of Bartimaeus; a lonely, friendless young magician, subject to outrageous repression and unkindness by the adults around him, but he is not an overly sympathetic child. Told from the very different viewpoints of Bartimaeus ( a smart-aleck djinn who has lived thousands of years and has nothing to show for it but an I rock you don't attitude) and Nathaniel (12 year old jerkwad apprentice whose lifelong dream is to be a huge im portant government official and have millions of obedient djinn slaves at his fingertips. I was reading Happy Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone to my class and remembered reading this book from my youth. The secrets of how to make the amulet were lost to time, although Bartimaeus mentions that it must have been a hard task to imprison the being(s) inside.

Interestingly, none of Stroud's characters are very likeable --possibly he's read too much Iris Murdoch? Also, there appears to be a second plot running under the main one which will obviously be continued in the later books, and this plot seems much more promising. This is done by examining the perspective of the sarcastic and slightly egomaniacal djinni Bartimaeus. There were a few panels were something uncouth was suggested to occur, and over those panels was a parchment that expanded the backstory a bit. The Amulet is only mentioned during the events of The Golem's Eye once when John Mandrake (Nathaniel) attempts to use the fact that he saved the Prime Minister and gave him the amulet to evade being imprisoned in the Tower of London.Tegningerne er farverige og flotte, måske en anelse sjuskede enkelte steder, men er det også svært at have mange detaljer med på lidt plads.
