She used to assist Charles Partner, who was First Desk at Regents Park until his suicide – something it’s rumoured Lamb might have had a hand in arranging. Taking his time over his novels, he takes his craft seriously and, with more books set to be released soon, this is something that will continue on into the foreseeable future. When he receives a message from MI5 that Driscoll is off limits his suspicions are immediately raised, but he also wonders if he is being manipulated. Nobody Walks is a completely independent novel even though its MI5 is the same as the one in Herron's Slough House series. As a fan of the Slough House series, it is satisfying to learn more about one character's back story and just to get a broader glimpse of MI5 as conceived by Herron.

It’s not in the stellar class of most of the Slough House series, but it’s a very good thriller which fleshes out some familiar characters – most notably Dame Ingrid Tearney and J. With it being familiar territory for him, it’s the ideal novel to see a master of his craft at the top of his game, with its expert use of both style and tone. However, one of the business men behind the deal, looking to make contacts in Russia, passes on sensitive information to the GRU who are looking to escalate matters. His loyalty to his team of misfits being high on the list of reasons that we are all firmly on the side of Team Slough House.Right from the first book, Herron shows he’s not afraid to kill off his creations and some of those deaths hit very hard indeed. The official story is that he fell off the balcony of his flat while smoking a particularly strong batch of weed.

Soho Press is publishing this new series and the earlier Slough House series which included Slow Horses and Dead Lions. The explanation of young Liam's death makes little sense to Tom, who begins to make enquiries of his own.

Meanwhile, River comes closer to answering his most burning question: who engineered his transfer to Slough House? He’d spent the better part of a decade taking [X X] off the board only to find that others had filled the gap. The second season, based on Dead Lions, was filmed back-to-back with the first and premiered on 2 December 2022. It’s a bit grim, but a good read, and there are even a few passing references to some Slough House characters, which is fun for fans like me.

Winning awards as well, he also gained the CWA Gold Dagger for his first effort, allowing him to garner critical acclaim as well as commercial. You can find a recent podcast on Irish Times with Herron when he released Joe Country, one of the Slough House series, a favorite of mine.I never did warm to the people, but I did find it intriguing discovering the connections between them. A trained operative like Tom has no trouble with the first wave of thugs sent to hurt him, and he’s not very kind to Tearney’s errand boy, either.
