She lives in a shelter and has nothing to lose, so she decides to enter the challenge along with thirteen other people. To support both my blog and podcast, you can always follow both and share them with your family and friends. There is a pretty brief F/F romance which was a nice effort, but because the characters themselves were so under developed it felt super abrupt and out of nowhere. Horror is such a delicious genre as it written to entertain, but also disturb and make the reader uncomfortable.

The actual horror component of this book, the dark purpose of the amusement park and the game of hide and seek, was really interesting. The paths themselves like a labyrinth that lead to the centre of the park and the monster that awaits. I found Mack to be unlikeable but I slowly warmed up to her as it was revealed that her iciness was a defence mechanism; it was clear she was willing to open up and find worth in herself, she just needed some understanding and companionship.

However, I don’t think any of us could have expected that she would churn out such a dark and gutting social commentary for her adult debut, and she would do it so well. but I will have to keep your “warnings” in mind once I get to this book, because it would seem that high expectations might work against my enjoyment of the story… Thank you so much for sharing this!

Bram Stoker Award–winning YA author White ( Camelot Rising) makes her adult debut with an enthralling, high-energy thriller grounded in supernatural horror. October’s here, which means it’s time for us to read the books that leave shivers running down our spines and keep us reminding ourselves over and over that we did, in fact, lock the doors and no, there definitely isn’t anyone else in the house with us. On top of this, in spite of the great setting and the high stakes I just didn’t really feel the tension or fear that I wanted or expected to feel. Like the main character of this story, I've spent a lot of my life attempting to disappear in a crowd.Do take that with a grain of salt as the ending's enjoyability depends on how you like your books to end. The characters were well developed and interesting, and I enjoyed getting insight into their backstories and how they ended up in the park. And the way that she weaves this in with the social aspects of wealthy elites taking advantage of lower income groups for their own gains makes it all the more interesting.
